    Strider,

You do know that PShomeJP_bot is unofficial right? The person responsible has no relation with Sony and is just saying that we don't know a time frame when PSN will come back.

Sorry--I know that Sony sympathizers will not like this, but there really is no excuse for this. Maybe a day at most for a network of millions of users if you have the right preventive/security measures in place...but a week or whatever this will end up being? No excuse--period. This is a network that contains the personal and banking information of most users as well as transaction histories. There is no way that an "intrusion" or breach should have them this perplexed--just no way. There is an incompetence that a lot of people have seen for a long time now and there are always people with the blinders on that want to say stop with the negativity and Sony-bashing. I dont want to bash anyone, but there is a long history of problems with this network that are well documented with absolutely no response from Sony...and now an intrusion that apparently has them completely baffled. If you can still have the same confidence in leaving your personal and banking information in the hands of a Company like this, that operates with such reckless disregard for their customers, then I dont know what to tell you.

If you make billions of dollars a year off your customers you better make damn well sure that your network isnt vulnerable to a group of schmucks (no matter how "good" they are at what they do) who want to compromise it for their own purposes. Its plain old unacceptable no matter how you slice it. They better start doing something with the security, stability and reliability of their network.

Actually just 1 user of home. Usually gets the info by searching around or getting info from friends.

Strider, I share your opinion on the quality of Sony's service. But I believe Sony's statement about "outside intrusions."

This is what I think happened. (This is just conjecture on my part). Around the time Home 1.5 was installed, some splinter group/individual from Anonymous hacked Sony good. Wednesday Home comes back online, but something was wrong. It took Sony awhile to realize they needed to shut down. So we had a little bit of time on PSN before on Weds night when Sony shut the whole thing down. They probably expected to be able to resume in a day or two. And they posted in the blog. Then they made a decision to contact the FBI about these attacks.

Meanwhile the FBI is pursuing their own investigation against Anonymous because of their Wikileaks related cyberattacks. And hearing that possible persons related to Anonymous has just attacked PSN, they probably decided to have Sony "freeze and isolate" the scene of the crime. AKA the Sony servers. And the FBI is probably going to need a week to investigate the sony servers for data related to Anonymous. I'm sure Sony is helping the FBI in any way it can, giving them full access and cooperation.

In other words, we can't use PSN because some FBI guy is sifting through the data on PSN servers regarding Anonymous.

At least that is my guess.... Completely lacking in evidence...but it's the best shot I can guess in the dark....

Fire everything on-line is archived. So during an investigation you don't have to shut the entire network down. The FBI are old hands in these kinds of investigations. Banks as well as many of different kinds of sites can't shut down. Especially this long they would be out of business if they did. As far as anonymous being behind this is pure speculation. They are an easy scape goat for SONY in this instanced.

There has been something wrong on this network for several weeks now. Probably a lot longer then that...

Didn't it take like a week to recover from a massive DOS attack that took out 1 country's whole internet connection? Forgot which country though.

Stages of grief: Blame hackers, blame Sony, blame hackers...rinse repeat...While I agree that Sony's information to us is lacking any kind of useful information, and this leads to a great deal of frustration on our part, I'm trying to reserve judgement until it all shakes out. I'm becoming more concerned the longer the network is down. A lot of people do store their CC info on their PSN and so I know the longer this goes on the more people are going to be concerned. One suggestion might be to check you activity for that CC online frequently until this is all cleared up (at a minimum). Not letting it's users know the scope of any (if any) compromised personal information is, in my opinion, the worst thing Sony has done to date.

You have a piss poor network that's what happens. But this wasn't a Ddos attack was it. They shut it down, they weren't brought down.

Here's another thing they haven't updated my on-line trophy list in almost 2 months. I'm still only showing killzone 2 as my last played game. And I played all the new releases since then. They cancelled the PS rewards release because their network couldn't keep up with anything. I know I was part of the rewards beta and it was a nightmare. So what is really going on?

I can live with the fact the PSN is down regardless of who or what, (Mainly cause its a free service), but I do have great concern for my personal info. (not that my identity is worth much, lol) I'm hoping someone from sony will soon put that concern to rest (not that I think much of anyone will believe it) Either way If you need me I'll be jammin' on my indestructable, hack proof, never failed me EVER, old school NES!!

flutter butter!! Good to hear from you! I miss seeing you in your bunny ears or lampshade and "Reus Sees All" shirt :) I agree--I can live with it too...for now, but my main concern is financial info. Sounds kind of fun being on the old NES! Happy Easter and I hope to see you and everyone else sometime soon in Home. :wallbash:

Finished portal 2 and just got the overclock trophy yeah yeah can't do co-op for some reason lol. Now back to my replaying of Bioshock on my PS3...

same here strider--I love the PS3 and all of the people that I've met on it, but the network admins, managers, engineers....whoever they are....DO need to get it together.

Yes i agree that Sony nee 2 get it together but isn't PSN put together by some firmware that's not a product of microsoft? aren't they teamed with apple or something? I kinda figure Sony is trying to put together an online network without using microsoft tech, so it would be kinda hard on them right.
In any case i'd rather use a PSNCard for any purchases & a point card on XBOXLive, less personal information on me floating around the better.
And HOPPER_34 you & anyone else feel free to remove undies all you want, Just keep your undies off the floor or lamp :p

Well Microsoft tech isn't safe either. Hotmail, Xbox Live, Microsoft servers, etc have incidents where personal info were hacked or leaked before. Nothing's real safe with network related. You just need to make wise decisions of whether you want to keep your info with them.

    Latest Update for PSN/Qriocity Services

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

Yea i didn't think Hotmail, Xbox Live, Microsoft servers were any more safe then PSN. What would also help protect personal information about someone is if some people online PSN or XBOXLive wouldn't use their real names as ID tags either. How many times you've seen friends or random people with their real names as tags, first name or last name Or even full names as PSN IDs or XBOXLive tags

Also It would be nice of Sony to add $20.00 in everyone's accounts for being patient & dealing with this situation.
