Edit: Seems this may apply to the PC Versions only and not PSN and Home!

Will we be getting PSN back by the weekend? Looks like it may be a real possibility.

Just saw this on twitter – tweeted by Karen actually. Maybe this is a real indication that we are going to get an official announcement soon and be back Home. I miss being able to log in.

PlayStation Network (PSN): Outage Status Update – Online by Weekend

We finally have some good news for PS3 users who are dying to get online again on their systems, as it looks as if Sony has inadvertently confirmed that the PlayStation Network will be back online by the weekend at the very latest.

Sony has been talking in a blog post about their plans to compensate players of PS3 MMO DC Universe Online and revealed that they will be holding something known as a ‘double station cash day’ for players on April 30th – this coming Saturday, as reported from Eurogamer.

This information was revealed by SOE director of community relations Linda Carlson, as she added below:

“To thank players for their patience, and we will be hosting special events this weekend across our game portfolio, including a Double Station Cash day on Saturday, April 30th. We are also working on a ‘make good’ plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms.”

You can read that information on the official DC Universe Forums here, hopefully Sony will confirm on the official PlayStation Blogs that the service will indeed be resumed by the weekend. Let us know your thoughts on this – are you looking forward to playing PS3 online again?

I find it very interesting that Nick Caplin's blog communication yesterday played up the points made in my previous post.

Even better how they're finally giving us specific details on what exactly was stolen. I still can't understand why the password field was not encrypted in the personal data table? Does that mean that Sony call support agents always had full access to our accounts whenever, and in whatever part of the world they were?!? :dontgetit:

At least having the new system automatically require everyone to change their passwords is good. Instituting new security measures on the user database, and migrating the data center itself is going to require a certain amount of retraining in Support personnel.

Unfortunately, since Account Recovery is the only way for people to retrieve their long-forgotten passwords, implementing the password change while verifying that "you're actually you" is going to be interesting. Maybe Sony will waiver the need for an old password if you're signing into PSN from your console's known MAC-address. While at the same time, they'd disable Account Recovery through the web to lock out would-be hackers from email access. Though anyone who has a PSN account set up just for PSP would be out of luck by this method

I'm going to get excited when I turn on my console and it tells me there is a PS3 software update...

Yay.... Here's to the latest Firmware Update. Biggest. Ever.

By the way, what do you think of the fact that the PSN server logs were publicly accessible through the web? A Dutch site went and retrieved the access logs,

PlayStation Network log van de hacker LEAKED! - PSX-Sense.nl

and highlighted when some random spammer attempted an "external intrusion" on the GraceNote server using Javascript injection attacks. The hacker used a proxy ID which displayed as the DoD Network Information Center. :hmmm: This occurred on April 15th and probably had nothing to do with the actual PSN network hack. Still, public log access was a pretty obvious security vulnerability right there.

Yes, the DoD. But the address 214.1.211.251 is a favorite IP spoof for hackers, so that doesn't mean the feds were responsible for bringing down PSN, if that's what you're thinking.

    Dear Carla,

You may have heard the news that Sony's PlayStation®Network has been closed for some days after it came under attack. This, in turn, has made our streaming service on the PS3™ temporarily unavailable.

Please don't worry about the personal details on your LOVEFiLM account – it is not possible to access these through the PlayStation®Network (we hold this information, not Sony), so it all remains completely safe and secure.

Even if you used the PS3™ to sign-up for LOVEFiLM, your data is still locked tight in our vaults. (If you use the same password across a variety of sites and services however, it's well worth changing these so that they're all different).

We will, of course, keep you updated as soon as Sony give us an indication of when the PlayStation®Network might resume – sorry for the hassle, we're as frustrated as you are. Further information is available at PlayStation.Blog.Europe : Your daily fix of PlayStation news from across the SCEE region.

In the meantime, you'll find our streaming service unaffected on PCs, Macs and internet-connected TVs, where you can continue to watch films instantly...

    Happy viewing,
    The LOVEFiLM Team

May 3 could be IGN's guesstimate based on that info.

Rachel just showed me the exact quote:

Station cash is only available on the PC versions of those games, the only reference SOE made to the PS3 was "We are also working on a ‘make good’ plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms." the rest was all about the pc version as their servers will be up sooner since those accounts weren't compromised at all... the best idea of a date is next Tuesday at the earliest as mentioned on the blog (The quote Firefly has already posted)
