Former Sony Employee Sues Nintendo Over 3DS Screen Tech The 3DS allegedly violates a patent held by Seijiro Tomita. The 3DS's must unique feature -- its glasses-free 3D display -- has gotten Nintendo sued. Tomita Technologies alleges in a lawsuit filed in a New York district court last month that Nintendo is violating a patent, number 7,417,664, which was filed for in 2003 by Seijiro Tomita and issued in August 2008. Tomita is described in the complaint as an "accomplished scientist and engineer" who worked at Sony for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2002. He began filing for patents after leaving the company, dozens of which now exist that list him as the inventor or co-inventor. Deus Ex Leakers Targeted by Lawsuit Prior to E3, an unfinished version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution was leaked onto the Internet. With the game not coming out until August, what was made available was a preview build intended only for the media. In response, it's come to light that Square Enix is suing fifteen unidentified individuals. The lawsuit (PDF) was filed on June 22 in Washington. The reason for that is the leak happened through Steam, the digital distribution service owned by Bellevue, Washington-based Valve. Among those who were allowed to access the preview build was someone working for Italian magazine Giochi per il Mio Computer. Rockstar Moving Towards Producing Movies Based on its Games? A new trademark filing for Rockstar Films looks to be more expansive than the original. A trademark filing for Rockstar Films has been discovered, which may indicate the Grand Theft Auto maker is closer than ever to creating movies based on its games. This isn't the first time the name Rockstar Films has come up. A trademark for the name was originally filed in 2004 and was described as providing "entertainment services in the nature of a live-action and/or animated television program series." Uncharted Film's New Director May be Limitless' Neil Burger With David O. Russell out of the picture, Burger may now helm the movie adaptation David O. Russell decided to abandon the film version of Uncharted back in May for what were said to be "creative differences." It wasn't the first time he had left, but it will be the last. Variety reports that Neil Burger has been offered the job to write and direct the film. Burger's most recent film, Limitless, starred Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro, the latter of which was a possible actor for Russell's Uncharted. Limitlesswas fairly well received, garnering a 70% average rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Dragon Age II: Legacy, the Game's First Big Story-Based DLC, Lands This Month EA will release the DLC pack later in July on PC, 360, and PS3. Dragon Age II was a disappointment to some, and BioWare is aware of that. It's hoping it change that with Legacy, the game's "first major story-based" DLC. Dragon Age II: Legacy will be on display at San Diego Comic Con later this month, though EA demoed the game for the crowd at its Summer Showcase today. BioWare said the DLC will go deeper into the Hawke family story, particularly that of the father. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair Hits PS3 This Summer Konami confirms reports of a PSN version of the XBLA Castlevania title.Confirming a report from late in May, Konami has announced that Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (not Dissonance; that's the GBA game) is coming to PlayStation 3. HD was previously an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive. It came out as a part of last year's Summer of Arcade promotion in August and subsequently saw the release of quite a few DLC packs. Before its release on XBLA, producer Koji Igarashi said we might see a PSN version if the XBLA version sold well enough. "Right now I'm focusing on Xbox Live Arcade," he said last June. "But there might be a possibility with that. Bizarre dev starts new indie studio No sooner had Bizarre Creations closed it doors, new studios by were being founded by former staff left and right. Hogrocket and Lucid Games both generated from an unfortunate destiny and it seems we?re not done with reporting about ex-employees pursuing new goals within the industry.Former Bizarre man Matt Cavanagh has formed a new independent studio going by the name of Totem Games. So far, it would seem this is a one-man operation given Cavanagh is the sole register of said company. There?s been a lack of info whether or not he?s cooking something up already, but he obviously is, otherwise he wouldn?t have started a videogamestudio.
