Don?t hold your breath for an Xbox 360 price cut to respond to the PS3?s own.When asked by VG247 (via) if such a cut was coming, Microsoft?s European interactive entertainment vice president Chris Lewis simply replied ?no?. He then added:*?As you can imagine, we plan for these scenarios all the time. For me to sit here and say that was a big surprise would be a lie. Respect for what they do, of course. I love the competition, actually: it keeps us on our toes, and consumers benefit ultimately.?We think we offer great value now. We have better service provision than anybody. We attach more effectively than anybody. I think Xbox LIVE?s enviable. What we?ve achieved with Kinect has given us growth that I think others would aspire to at this point in the lifecycle.

CryEngine 3 SDK downloaded 100k times


Crytek?s newly-released CryEngine 3 SDK has proven to be quite the interest magnet; the development tool has been downloaded over 100,000 times since it was made available last week.The tool is available for as a free download. Those who make a commercial product will have to hand 20% of the profits over to Crytek. Give it a download at the mycryengine.com site here.

Square and Airtight to debut new game at PAX


Square Enix are teaming up with Airtight Games for a new project.What is it? Well we don?t know, but we?ll find out on August 27 when the pair reveal the fruits of their labor at a panel at this year?s PAX. In Square?s own words the game is*?incredibly fascinating? and ?quirky,? so we?ll keep our eyes peeled.Airtight were responsible for the ho-humDark Void; another third-person shooter with another cover system (though admittedly one literally turned upside down) and another main character voiced by Nolan ?Drake? North. Let?s hope this new game is a bit more successful than their last effort.

'Extended Cut' content keeping House of the Dead out of Australia


Yesterday, we postulated that the extra content in House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut could be the reason the game was refused classification in Australia. It turns out that's exactly what happened, according to a Classification Board decision report obtained by Joystiq.The report specifically cites the new Hardcore mode contained in Extended Cut, which requires players to make headshots and evidently ratchets the violence into territory that is "unsuitable for a minor to see or play." The report also mentions Extra Mutants mode which is ... well, it's pretty self-explanatory. Somewhat puzzling, however, is the fact that Extra Mutants mode was also available in the original Wii version of the game.

Hey, remember the free Deus Ex: Human RevolutionOnLive code that comes with the retail PC version? If you bought your copy at GameStop, chances are you didn'tget the code. It turns out that the retailer decided not to participate in the promotion ... by force.GameSpy is reporting that GameStop employees received notice yesterday that they were to open new PC copies of Deus Exand remove the free OnLive token. To repeat: GameStop employees were told to open new copies and remove contents intended to be sold with the game.A GameStop representative confirmed to GameSpy that the company is removing the tokens, saying, "Square Enix packed the competitor's coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons."

Back to the Future goes retail as Telltale becomes PS3, Wii publisher


Taking a cue from the subject matter of Back to the Future: The Game, Telltale and Sony are going to begin selling the episodic adventure game in an old-fashioned manner: boxed copies in stores. Telltale has 'expanded' its publishing agreement with Sony to include retail games, the first of which will be Back to the Future. The disc version will be released this October, at the same $19.99 price point as the digital version.The agreement isn't exclusive to Back to the Future; Telltale now has the option to publish retail versions of any of its PSN games. To date, that includes Puzzle Agent, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Tales of Monkey Island, and Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Following last week?s PS3 price cut down to*£199/$249/?249, newly-appointed SCEE boss Jim Ryan is set to tackle the system?s performance in the UK, which is weaker than other PAL*territories.?Getting to £199 is fantastic in the UK. It?s a real milestone. UK is one of the territories where we have to do better,? Ryan told MCV.?Whether you approach the UK from the perspective of our momentum, or the perspective of the competitive landscape, for us the UK is more like US than continental Europe. If you look across the PAL territory, where typically we outsell our competitors by around 50 per cent on a weekly basis, it?s inverted in the UK.?That is something we want to address.?

No Porsches in Forza 4, blame EA

EA has blocked the inclusion of Porsches in Turn 10?sForza Motorsport 4, the developer has revealed.Creative director Dan Greenawalt said in an interview on the game?s official blog (via): ?This kills me. While Forza Motorsport 4will feature RUF, it will not include Porsche cars.?In Forza 3, we were able to feature more than 35 different Porsche models by offering to collaborate with EA. For Forza 4, we were looking forward to adding even more Porsche cars. In the end, however, EA couldn?t see their way towards collaborating again.?We?ve asked our contacts at EA to reconsider their position frequently and regularly over the last 18 months.

Spider-Man Edge of Time preview: Edge of glory




Like a vagabond Lothario who flees from a relationship the moment it turns serious, Spider-Man always seems to leave developers just short of something really special. Neversoft never quite cracked "the perfect Spider-Man" while it had the license, and Shaba Games came within inches of it before it was shuttered.Now, with Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Beenox is taking its second pass at the Web Head, and if the quality I saw at my PAX demo was any indication, it may be time to start getting nervous when Spidey "just runs out to buy some smokes real quick.
