I bought The PS3 because of the games, the beautiful graphics the awesome sound, the PS3 features such as adding music, photos, internet access, online gaming, movies & more. I bought The PS3 because out of all the gaming systems i've had...Atari 2600 SEGA Genesis SegaCD Sega Sega Saturn PSOne Sega DreamCast PS2 XBOX PSP XBOX360, The Sony systems lasted longer & held up better. I jumped ship from the Sega Saturn to the PSOne because of TombRaider2 & I haven't thought twice about it. I bought The PS3 because I'm a gamer & this is my system of choice, what's your reason.
Truthfully the reason I bought PS3 was as a cheaper blu ray player, now it's my main gaming and entertainment device.
I got the PS3 for it's gaming power, after reading how Blu-ray disc could hold 25GB of data on a single layer disc & 50 GB on a dual-layer disc! I thought about the game worlds that could be created and tried to imagine what they would look like! I also got it for PS Home, which I thought was an innovative idea! & of course the games! My last and final reason resides in the XMB (i.e. Photos, Music, Videos)
I chose the PS3 over the 360 as I already followed several game franchises that I knew would continue on the PS3. It wasn't a case of which was better, just which would have the games I wanted. Also, I find that Playstation are usually more unusual and experimental in the choice of new titles. I like quirky things.
