Ok, I am completely aware that a form of Namco museum on PS3 in the form of Namco Museum Essentials and the PsHome space.

However, and I'm sorry to say this, both suck so bad compared to what they've done before in the PS1 days. The game software is just games and the space feels like a generic arcade

The original Namco Museum series came in five discs on the PS1.

Granted it had the games, but the bread and butter of the series was the museum itself.

In a first person view you could explore a fully 3D museum. It has history of the company, games and media, and merchandise produced, even more so, were rooms dedicated to each game, and each one was themed after that game. You could see Pacman's house, Druaga's gargantuan stature, and numerous other things, and as the series progressed the exhibits only got more and more elaborate, and many were even getting interactive elements, for instance for Dragonspsirit pressing and button and watching a transformation, riding a skateboard for Metro Cross, or using a Power Pellet in a Pacman room.

It was a seriously awesome series, and today, with the PS3, I would LOVE to see what they could do with such a game, such as showing commercials for the games, which wasn't exactly possible in the days of the PS1. Not to mention now they could include a larger range of games and much better themed rooms.
FOr instance a Tekken room with a giant statue of Kazuya, or a Ridge Racer room with cars speeding around a track.

Anyone else ever seen this series as it was before and think the same?

You've purposed an interest topic, to which I applaud you!! The truth is though, when it comes to PS store "PS1 Classics" or even "PS2" games that they've "decided" to re-release, there just watered down versions of what they were originally! All there providing now, is just the game itself, none of the features, which gave you that extra excitement or kept you playing are hardly present if at all! As for the space, I agree it is just a generic arcade, with no reason to really visit it at all! I've only been there twice! In regards to Tekken, I think it should be an entire museum of Tekken characters and maybe a little bio for each or maybe an interactive exhibt, in which your avatar could interact with your favorite characters from the game! As for RR, I don't think Namco would ever give it a space, which is ashame, seeing as RR is one of the original arcade racers, which I think, may actually be the longest running racing title in gaming history! (R4 being my favorite)
