I have to admit,I'm not a fan of old japanese WWII ships in space. Beyond ridiculous. Stupid. Moronic.

    All that.

But then why did I like the NEW Space Battleship Yamato live action movie??!?!

God help me.. I did. In fact I watched it 3 times already. And it's funner each time around.

The new live action is a curious mix of designs that are true to the original cartoon. But the quality of the sets and special effects rival that of the new battlestar galactica (is it still new? It seems kinda old now).

It also has alot that reminds me of that battlestar show. It's a "battleship" but really it's a carrier. Warriors strap in their fighterships and get catapulted out. They fight off a mysterious alien menace (that are in ships alot cooler than the old basestars or new basestars, or sorta was new basestars, whatever). And their evil hoards of fighters have that ovoid shape.

There's even that old "last great battleship off to find the legendary planet". But in this case they are off to find Iskandar since our war is going horribly bad (don't they all?) And we are on the verge of being extinct (yeah, we do that alot in movies). But an alien probe lands on earth from a place called Iskandar. Seems someone out there don't like our enemy too. And the probe contains weapons and warp engine schematics. So we supe up our last ship, and try to make a hail mary end run around the enemys that are devastating earth.

This old cartoon remake actually does a pretty good job of it. It's definitely alot funner than alot of remakes from Hollywood. There are some cheesy acting bits. The actors shout their emotions way too much at the drop of a hat. And the ship does look alot like a flying WWII battleship still. But if you can get past that, it's a cool story of hotshot pilots fighting against desperate odds and saving the day. And that's always fun!

I think you guys will like it.

OH! And you guys are going to LOVE the hot ace. Gotta love a girl that can fly, shoot, and look good in a pony tail! She is uber cool!

Wow, that looks really cool! :)

I have to put in a mention for Love Exposure. Best part of 5 hours long, but very, very good. As amusing in places as it is moving in others. A true classic. Here's a trailer:

Another Japanese classic is Weather Woman. It's a superb comedy in which a lady stands in for the regular weather woman while she is off on maternity leave. During the show, she flashes her underwear and is an instant success, leaving no job for the original weather woman to return to. Instead, she is transfered to a show interviewing famous perverts! The two women then clash to determine who is the ultimate weather woman.

Hilarious stuff! Strong sexual overtones, so even though I can't recall any actual nudity it is not one to watch with your children. There's even one section filmed in the style of a beat-em-up video game but with live actors. Trains feature, but no large robots unfortunately, so it falls short of ticking all the Japanese theme boxes in a single film, but trust me, it is outstandingly funny and well worth a watch. :)

Gantz(???Gantsu?)is a Japanese manga and anime series written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Gantztells the story of Kei Kurono and his friend Masaru Kato who die in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items of equipment and weaponry.

I like this idea but I'm a little confused. This is about Japanese "live action," anime or just any international films? I'm a bit confused what live action means but I'll learn lol.

Anywho, still sounds like a wide open idea to highlight exceptional international films. I watch a few myself.

Just a few days ago I watched a Korean thriller called I Saw The Devil. What I found so interesting is they take the overdone genre of ultra-violent serial killer against greatly wronged hero and suddenly make you think anew. At least it had that affect on me.

I'm really intrigued by the offerings so far! Supa Cool!

I've been putting the above film titles into Netflix and they aren't offering them right now, just gives a "Save" function.

I'm sure I'll be searching for ways, but would anyone be able to suggest what they consider a good way to find and watch the above films?

Just thinking about it now, I was able to watch instantly the Korean film I've suggested but I can't even say whether or not others will easily be able to watch that if anyone ever actually tries to. Sure hope so.

Regardless I know I want to and intend to so I really will appreciate anyone giving their own methods of watching obscure international films. I'm sure I've encountered titles that Netflix wasn't going to be offering anytime soon and that bugged me but I didn't take the extra steps necessary. Maybe because so often YouTube quality has been poor and maybe that's changed finally.

Thanks for the help though.

I am more prone towards torrent and FTP download sites. I have numerous Japanese films from my previous or over the years download. If you need anything and interested which I have in my library then I might be able to burn you a copy onto DVD-R disc and send it to you via mail.

I loved Star Blazers as a kid and will check out the remake. A little off subject but speaking of re-makes the new Sy-Fi TV series "Battlestar Galactica - Blood & Chrome" is shooting right now I thought the re- imagined series was excellent!
    ahh memories!

I've uploaded a newer version of the Yamato 2010 english subs. I hope this increases your viewing pleasure.

Please, if there is any japanese speakers that can help me improve this, please let me know any dialog corrections that you can suggest. Please note the film time of the dialog too so I can find where your corrections should go.

BTW, if the timing of the dialog is off, it's because your copy is different than mine. That's not something I can compensate for.

Thank you vampire!! i'm glad I could help everyone. This really surprised me. I kinda had low expectations for this. But while it does have it's flaws( we really need to give those actors some decaf)' the movie essentially has all the things I love in a movie. Great story. Great special effects with gorgeous cinematography. A cast with some very likable characters. And a great tale with some good character arcs. The captain, korai, and yuki all had great character arcs. And it had a touching and uplifting finale! Alot of really great moments too.;D

Japanese & foreign films stick closer to the anime or manga.

Yea the casting & effects in alot of japanese & foreign films are really good. Alot of Japanese & Foreign films actually try to get a story right, follow the anime or manga storyline even model the live action versions characters after the anime or manga. Nowadays hollywood wants they're own little touch or spin on the anime or comic characters & totally going off the storyline in the process, Uncharted live action movie for example.

So i'm happy you all are bringing these japanese & foreign films to light, Thank you.

    Dog soldiers

Dog soldiers a 2002 British horror film written and directed by Neil Marshall.
I'm sure everyone here has seen this movie but it's worth mentioning.
This the best werewolf movies i've ever seen. They were true to werewolves, there was no falling in love with some teenage dork that wears lipstick (twilight) The werewolves were werewolves. Great acting the special effects weren't over the top because it absolutely wasn't necessary & cooler still, this was shown on the Sci-fi channel. It hollywood gets their grubby little paws on this then it'll be ruined.

Ahh, is this the 720p version rip of .srt subs you reworked? I shall give it a go and download it tonight and I was wondering in the YPSH PM you inquire of me about "2nd subs" and so this is it. :)
