Every year more than 50.000 children are given the opportunity to visit over 500 media productions selected by the festival: feature films, children’s documentaries, short films, animations, television series and single productions, cross media productions, interactive installations and set-ups as well as workshops. The MediaLab as Experimental Garden The Cinekid MediaLab is a 1200 square metre digital playground where children and their parents can learn in an active way about the possibilities of different media alongside teachers, professionals and policymakers. More than forty different games, installations and workshops will provide an environment in which to experiment, play, learn and laugh with innovative media art and technology Cinekid’s New Media Award An important part of the MediaLab is the New Media Award, an annual competition for apps, cross-media productions, installations, and (online) video games presented in the Netherlands and Flanders between July 1 2011 and July 1 2012. Every year the jury chooses the 12 best entries, which will become part of the program of the MediaLab. During the festival the Professionals jury will choose the main winner, who will receive a prize of 1200 Euros.
