Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is Dead Kotaku reports FF13 versus is quietly being canned. No official reports. But the rumor is it's dead and the staff is being shoved over to FF15.
Anything can happen with SquareEnix these days. I really hate Wada, current president, that took over in 2001. He's a business man where he only looks at numbers and doesn't really know about games. Forgot the exact words but he made number of statements where he didn't exactly know what the products his company was producing. Also, he made a statement in 2010 where he said "If we made 1/3 of our workforce with people in their 20s, then alot of problems should be solved." In 2011, they layed off 800 people, brought in 350 young people, and reported a record profit year. (due to cutting cost) In 2012, they reported a deficit and he said "Due to the layoff, our game production became extremely weak"
Rumor or not, I was looking forward to Versus. Watching the trailers alone made me want it. Course a remade VII would be nice too but I heard somewhere it won't happen until SE makes a Final Fantasy that surpasses VII.
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has dispelled rumours of Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s demise. The executive took to Twitter to describe the rumours as a hoax. Wada said he attended a regular meeting on the RPG’s progress today, and that fans would be surprised to see how the game is shaping up; he specifically mentioned the city setting. Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced over six years ago as part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis sequence; an expected reveal earlier this year was unaccountably delayed.
