I really like the idea of how Madmunki, Veemee, and even Hellfire are making virtual 3D worlds like PlayStation Home. I really like the idea of Neotopia because it will improve a lot more than PlayStation Home would've been. I really am excited about Neotopia coming to the PlayStation 4, and I look forward to seeing it succeed. I wonder if nDreams, LockWood, GranZella, will participate as well.
I doubt Lockwood will. They have their own project for mobile called Avakin. nDreams is focusing on VR. Gz seems to be leaning more towards developing games.
Great interview Karen, you and Dave had a nice casual flowing conversation and you even asked him about the mis-steps of Home. OH that took guts. LOL. But he answered with poise I like that.
... I had a feeling that they were working on some kind of social network for the PS4. With all the slowing down in Home, I felt as if that they were putting their time and effort into something new. But I never once thought that it would be someone else other than SONY. Hum, this could be a good thing. All in all, I am excited for something new and as long as there is a place for us to go to (similar to Home) on the PS4, for us to keep in touch and have fun, I am happy. WOOT! And I also loved they way Karen asked the questions that supported us Home users.

As you can see sony has not betrayed you. Yes they shut down home however thanks to there idea that was home and focusing to create a console targeted towards gamers and publishers alike a new replacement to home is coming in the form of neotopia on ps4. Personally I think this is great, as home was a great idea but I think it was in all honesty to much for Sony to handle. The goal of playstation is games and providing the hardware for u to enjoy said games. While I think home was an awesome idea I also think it would have been better to have a 3rd party attempt this while working with sony. Thankfully that's what this will be on ps4 a dev solely focused on neotopia. Also I know a lot of you are saying if only sony had managed home better it could have been great, however how many of u know what went into home or how profitable it was? In the past few yrs sony has made some huge layoffs from its top gaming studios and even closed down a few like the socom dev zipper. It costs money to manage and run home and with sony lay offs and shutting down studios it's a clear sign that home was not something they could invest much in since I'm sure a good chunk of the money from home was going towards protecting home from hackers. Lastly I know some also pointed out the fact u need to pay now to play online, to that I say it's 50 dollars I'll gladly pay every yr as it one of the best subscriptions u can be a part of. Great deals on the store, 6 free games each month 2 for each console ps3 ps4 and psvita, beta invites and host of other great benefits so personally I don't really see it as paying to play online. Not to mention the subs should also help the future netopia run a lot smoother than home ever did as the servers on psn should run a lot smoother since a portion of the psplus goes towards the servers. Anyway I know it still pisses ppl off that home is shutting down, trust me I feel you. I went through this with white knight chronicles 2, d3 publishers released the game but nvr released all the story dlc that revolved around ur avatar and it really pissed the wkc community off and if ur unaware wkc was a online rpg that even had Home rewards. Finally this kick starter is truly a way for home supporters to show how much they love what home was. Lately I keep seeing a a lot ppl asking for refunds for what they purchased which is not just stupid b/c if Sony had brought home to ps4 I'm pretty sure u would have had to start from scratch on ps4 as everything would have be significantly better but it also shows they have no love for home and just want there money bk b/c it's ending. I knew full well that once I moved to ps4 and even if home had followed I'd lose all my ps3 stuff, it's just how consoles work just like the hd remaster games won't read my saves from the original games b/c it all new coding. Anyway I hope neotopia becomes what home was meant to be and I'm glad to see ps4 is getting something similar to home. Tho I sorta wonder if this was all planned as neotopia is announced only a short few days after sony announces homes shutdown.
The devs at Spunland has always been the most favorite and friendly devs I have met whenever they arrived for Q & A or during King Coronation day on Tuesdays. I do hope their VR project will be the next big thing once Home is gone, and I think they'll do a better job. But now, there's Hellfire and Veemee making their own VR worlds... We'll have to see where we'll go and end up staying on the PS4.
i just hope they keep challenges and something like LKWD Points cause since those 2 things came to ps home it was so most funny and ivr meet a lot of people
Good interview Karen. Not to sound like Downer Dan, but what makes them think that anyone who was in Home will trust buying virtual products from them or donate to their Kickstarter now that we see how Sony will shutdown Home? That's a little presumptuous don't you think? To me this is still bleh... Why can't we just have a world where we can meet up and hang with friends? Do we really need to buy stuff? I don't know, maybe I'm just soured on the hour virtual world thing. Now I know what you're going to say.. "Of course Coop you don't have to buy anything"... Trust me, you put paid virtual items in a system and people are going to feel some sort of pressure to buy something because their friend did or they'll introduce freemiums somehow. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the final product, but they're not going to get one red cent from me.. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I don't think it's "presumptuous" at all. Don't forget, all the problems with Home trace back to Sony. A new platform, such as neotopia, is not being made or run by Sony. In the case of neotopia, I have spoken with David Dow many times over the last few weeks and I can assure you, he has a passion for this and wants to do it right. Any platform, Sony's or otherwise depends on the sale of virtual items to keep it afloat. Otherwise, everyone would be paying a hefty subscription fee. Buying these items is your call of course. Most find that buying these items makes the experience much more fun. Look at them as a rental. If the service goes bust, you got your use out of it. You won't get any argument from me that Sony mis-handled home. However, I would bet the developers who are trying to create a new platform for us will try harder to make it a better experience.
just puting it out ther i wont to thank evry one who pm me to play my mmo last nite so thanks i dint think saying it on hear of all places wuld do eney good but thanks eney way oh and is the kickstarter up yet
