    [h=3]Assassin's Creed 3 -- Going to New York?[/h]

Assassin's Creed 3 may hit New York City according to clues we've collected so far. We know Desmond's fight against the templars somehow leads him to America's past. How Desmond is related to this new assassin remains a mystery. Some sleuthing through history, both Desmond's and America's, may answer more of our questions about Assassin's Creed 3.

The final mission in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood DLC "The Da Vinci Disappearance" has Da Vinci and Ezio in a room similar to the one at the end of the game. In it, lies a mystical statue with a message. Aligning the symbols correctly gives you a list coordinates that read

[h=3]Assassin's Creed 3 Details Leak: Gameplay, Characters, Settings, Weapons And More Revealed[/h]

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 3, 2012, 2:29 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-Ambush.jpg

A ton of new Assassin's Creed 3 details have leaked all over the Internets, so we now know a lot about the game. The details are ripped from the April issue of Game Informer magazine, a digital version of which appeared online, and was posted on NEOGaf, as well as PS3Trophies.com, so this isn't officially released information on Assassin's Creed 3. But here's what we know... Spoilers, Ahoy:

The hero is named Connor/Ratohnhake:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). He's half English and half Mohawk Indian. You will experience Connor's childhood on the frontier. The Mohawk clash with white colonists who burn their village down, causing Connor to dedicate his life to confronting tyranny and injustice. The overall story is still centered around the Assassins versus the Templars and Connor's journey.

The game is set between the years 1753-1783 around Boston and New York. You'll meet George Washington -- one of the game's main characters -- as well as Ben Franklin, who is apparently not a "convenient inventor" like da Vinci in past Assassin's Creed games. Another main character is the mysterious Charles Lee. We don't know anything about him at all.

Here are some of the events we can expect: "You will see the great fire of New York. You will visit Valley Forge as a location that is currently occupied by Washington's forces. You will visit these places in the moment that they were important."

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 3, 2012, 2:29 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-Up-High.jpg

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 3, 2012, 2:29 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-Snowy-Sneaking.jpg

A lot of the actual gameplay centers on The Frontier, a huge area of wilderness that is 1.5 times bigger than all of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. When in the frontier, you'll meet up with all kinds of gameplay elements, including hunting and pelt gathering (shades of Red Dead Redemption), and villages -- Colonial and Native American alike. The wilderness traversal plays a big part in the gameplay in the Frontier. You use trees, cliffs, ledges, and more to set up kills and combat. Connor does have a hidden blade.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 3, 2012, 2:29 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, assassins-creed-3-screenshots-leak.jpg

The city scenes are more detailed than previous Assassin's Creed games, with full crowds of people doing different, mundane tasks, and the city seeming to react to players' actions.

Here are some nitty-gritty gameplay details

    Leveling System:
"Imagine a leveling system in an RPG, except there's a finite amount of XP to find. The more in-sync you get, the more you fill your sync bar. Within each mission, each activity you complete has a value". You can replay everything to increase your score.
There is reportedly something resembling the Brotherhood system of picking up fellow assassins. Aligned groups are gone, but something new is replacing them in regards to factions. There's a new notoriety system that is more hidden and doesn't penalize you for exploring risky areas. The game has fast travel because the game has more traveling. It's a huge map.

    Multiplayer
: No word yet on the multiplayer.

    Combat:

    • The tomahawk and knife are a "constant presence" in battle. They let you do double counters and multiple takedowns, as well as chain kills.

    • There's no more target locking. Counter/defense are the same button to prevent defensive turtling.

    • You can use human shields and other context sensitive moves.

    • There are lots of secondary attacks like the one shot pistol on the Y button.

    • There's a new dynamic camera to track the action and make it look as cinematic as possible.

    • There is a new sprinting system also, so you can hold the button to instantly turn around and start fleeing from combat. They also let you kill people while still moving so you can keep chasing a target.

How's that for a comprehensive look at the game? This coming Monday morning, you'll get your first real look at the game when the Assassin's Creed 3 trailer is released.

Assassin's Creed III: "Back to Basics"

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 10, 2012, 4:07 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-Ambush.jpg

As you may have heard in this week's Side Mission Briefing, both Michael McWhertor and I got a bit bored with the Assassin's Creed franchise following the repetitive, scattered efforts of the series' first two entries.

It seems Ubisoft recognized some of those issues and has set out to fix them in Assassin's Creed III.

Alex Hutchinson, creative lead on AC III, to an audience at the Game Developers Conference:

"I think that there's an element in the Ezio trilogy… I think it's very hard when you have a story that's going from game to game to game, that's relatively consistent, to remove things. It doesn't make sense to people logically that in the second game they would lose something that they had, fictionally, hours before, so we've had a problem with mechanics that weren't as tight as perhaps they could have been."

On the move to AC III and the benefits of newness to the series, Mr. Hutchinson said, "I think one of the joys of having a new character and a new universe is that we can strip it back and we can go back to basics."

"The way we see the universe is that it's basically two fantasies. One is the fantasy of being an assassin, and the other one is this fantasy of being a virtual time tourist, of someone visiting different places in time and different periods in time." He continued, "We try to make sure that all of the mechanics we build fall into one, or both preferably, of those pockets."

"Moving forward, we're as much as possible tying to clear the deck for new players. It means obviously a new hero and a new setting, and it means getting that new hero into that new setting as fast as possible."

He went on to say players will be assassinating someone within "30 seconds" of loading the AC III disc into their machine.

    "That's a promise."

Head on over to Eurogamer for a bit more on the game's outstanding setting, as well as some of Mr. Hutchinson's thoughts on AAA game design.

New Assassin's Creed III Screens Paint a Very Pretty Picture

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 26, 2012, 6:10 PM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, AC3-Canoe.jpg

This latest batch of screens to work their way to the public eye have Assassin's Creed III's protagonist, Connor, on land, in a tree and… well… in a canoe.

I can't remember the last time a video game has put its player into a canoe, so kudos to Ubisoft for recognizing and exploiting this glaring industry inefficiency.

Canoe analysis aside, these screens are fairly gorgeous. In addition to the canoe pic, some favorites include the dark, rain-filled lurking pic with Connor perched high above a cadre of Redcoats, the light-blue, wintery Harbor pic with Connor on a roof and the orange, bloody, sunrise/sunset battle scene.

Each of the images grants to the eye a different swatch of colors and the distinction of seasons / night & day helps establish the player in the game's setting. Together, these visual elements boost the game's feeling of immersion, assisting in telling the game's story.

Assassin's Creed III Coming with Two Killer Deluxe Editions

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Mar 27, 2012, 3:52 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ac3_collectors.jpg

Ubisoft has unveiled two deluxe editions of the upcoming Assassin's Creed III, offering fans two beautifully packaged ways to show their adoration for the franchise (and make the publisher a couple extra bucks in the process, naturally).

If the American Revolution setting of Assassin's Creed III and its new hero Connor are interesting enough to you to drop more than the standard fifty to sixty bucks on the game, here are a few more options, the "Freedom" and "Join or Die" editions of the game.

(Keep in mind that these editions are only officially announced for Europe at this point. Ubisoft says North American fans should hold tight for an announcement on this side of the Atlantic.)

More Assassin's Creed III Screens For Your Consideration

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 10, 2012, 4:10 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-2-4.9.jpg

More leaked images from Assassin's Creed III have hit the web. They feature the game's protagonist, Connor, strolling through the countryside and encountering some Revolutionary War battlefields.

In general, the screens look good and are in line with others we've seen to this point. This may be as much green as we've seen from the game, and the lush, natural environs are depicted well.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 10, 2012, 4:10 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-4-4.9.jpg

Look! A ship in the distance.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 10, 2012, 4:10 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-1-4.9.jpg

Given the technological limitations of the era's firearms, mainstream battlefield tactics largely revolved around moving giant blocks of soldiers in formation and sending volleys of lead in the general direction of the enemy.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 10, 2012, 4:10 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-5-4.9.jpg

It'll be fun to assume the persona of Connor and exploit these tactical inefficiencies.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 10, 2012, 4:10 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, ACIII-3-4.9.jpg

Assassin's Creed III has an October 30 release date attached for North America; a day later in many international regions.

    Assassin's Creed 3 -- 5 Things That Have Changed Since Assassin's Creed 2

Assassin's Creed 3 will be the fifth game in the Assassin's Creed series. A lot has changed since Desmond first accessed the memories of Altair in the first Assassin's Creed. We've seen Desmond change ancestors, companions, and memories, but we're going to see the most amount of change this October when Assassin's Creed 3 is released. I recently had the chance to check out a small demo for AC3 at the Ubisoft booth at PAX East 2012. There were a few major changes being made to series with this installment. Here's what is different.

    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, Apr 13, 2012, 1:30 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, assassins-creed-3-screenshots-leak.jpg

    5. Clear Paths
Connor, Desmond's British and Mohawk ancestor, will have clear combat paths. Rather than deciding on the fly if you want to play stealth or go in hidden-blades blazing, you can make the choice before you begin. Prior to some missions there will be a stealth path or an action path laid before you. In past games, full synchronization occurred when Ezio or Altair took the most stealth path. This time around that may change. Ubisoft hasn't confirmed this, but my guess is there will be two different ways to reach synchronization; the stealth and the action. Maybe I'll finally be able to 100% missions if I'm rewarded for playing like Rambo.

    4. Enemies
The Assassin's Creed series pits assassins against Templars, in that sense, nothing has changed. Like Altiar, Ezio and Desmond; Conner is out to take down any and all Templar foes. In the demo I saw at PAX East, Connor stalked and murdered Pitcairn, a major in the British army. This doesn't mean you'll only be fighting the British though. There are Templars on each side of the battle.

What has changed is the amount of enemies you'll be facing. Past games saw your assassin fight against several enemies, maybe even a dozen if you were trying to reclaim a tower. But this time around, Connor will be facing thousands of enemies. For the first time in the Assassin's Creed series there will be armies. In past games there could only be 200 characters in a scene at once; Assassin's Creed 3 will be able to support 2,500 characters on screen. I'm going to go ahead and recommend you download this game to the hard drive.

    3. Stalking Zones
Blending into crowds was vital for Ezio and Altair in previous AC games. When a crime or public offense was committed, both assassins would walk slowly in sync with the villagers to avoid detection. This was crucial for gamers like me who would plow through a busy city only to be stopped by a street musician. If you knocked out his lute, the city guards would attack you. The only way to not get caught was to immediately blend in.

I assume AC3 will have drummer boys who are equally annoying because now you'll be able to use the same blending techniques with brushes, shrubbery and other plant life. If you're stalking an enemy in a field, a forest, or anywhere with vegetation, Connor will be able to crouch beside it and become undetectable.

    2. Weapons
Connor is half Native American, and with his heritage he has earned some new weapons never before used in the AC series. The tomahawk and the bow have already been shown off in screenshots. I got to see the tomahawk in action, and I got to say, it works how I thought it would. Connor attacked a Red Coat with it, slashing his face into a bloody, red pulp. The bow has yet to be demonstrated, but I can use my imagination for that one.

In the PAX East demo, Connor showed off another weapon: the rope dart. From high up in a tree, Connor can shoot an enemy with the rope dart, hanging him right there. If your enemy is alone this kill allow you to continue on your stealth path, never being noticed. If this enemy is in a group, this naturally causes some alarm.

    1. Climbing
Say goodbye to the yellows and reds of Rome, and say hello to brown and green. Gone are the buildings of Renaissance Italy. Trees are the new buildings and your parkour skills will be just as important as before.

Tree navigation has been worked into the game, not just for combat but for traveling as well. Ubisoft actively avoided making the game feel like Tarzan by focusing on realism. Giant trees that can support a man's weight can be used to climb with a move called Trunk Around. Giant branches can be used as beams to let Connor leap or swing.

Other natural formations will impact how Connor gets around. Rocks and cliffs have been carefully designed to feel authentic. The designers didn't want gamers to feel like they were following a pattern. Players will be free to climb as they want, or as the rock's curves allow.

These are just five of the many ways Assassin's Creed 3 will build on everything we love about the AC series. We'll update you as we learn more.

The Stunning Gameplay of Assassin's Creed III

    1. A Chilling Jungle
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 1-600x337.jpg

One of the key ideas behind Assassin's Creed III is wilderness, and the fact that North America in the late 1700s was not nearly as civilized or densely populated as Europe. That means the new hero, Connor, needs a new type of environment to work in, and Ubisoft chose to leverage the dense forests and terrain surrounding the colonies of that era. Not quite content to just use these areas as mere settings, players will be able to use the environment to their advantage, stalking their prey like never before.

    2. The New Rooftop
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 2-600x337.jpg

Walls are now trees. Branches will become the ledges and ropes that used to connect so many buildings in European cities. You'll notice towards the bottom left of this screen that small branches stick out from the tree, conveniently providing Connor a path up while standing out due to the eternally-fresh snow. It's good to see that Ubisoft is finding ways to turn this forest into a playground, even if they have to "game" things a little bit so players can logically find their way around. One thing we're interesting to find out one of these days - just what percentage of the world is able to be played in, and what is there strictly for show.

    3. The Bear
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 3-600x337.jpg

Bears. Previous Assassin's Creed installments have forced players against a variety of human opponents, but with a vast wilderness comes new threats - and it would see logical they pose a different kind of challenge.

We're not expecting the bears to get up on their hind legs and fist fight Connor (though that would be kind of awesome in a hilariously awful sort of way), nor are we expecting to have to do too much beyond dodging and counter-attacking, but the fact that nature will pose its own challenges is thrilling. We've heard there is also a larger currency to the game that involves hunting and more resource-based trading, and that effectively killing animals plays into that. The fact that Ubi has not only put bears in this game, but put them there for a reason, is very exciting.

    4. The Field of Battle
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 4-600x337.jpg

In one of our previous articles, we described witnessing an epic battle that placed Connor directly in the middle of clashing British and Colonial forces. This is a brief glimpse of what the trailer shows, with thousands of British firing off their muskets at the rag-tag remnants of their opposition. You can see a hill in the distance. That's where Connor's target is - a British officer, who is definitely about to have the worst day of his life.

    5. More Agility Than Ever
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 5-600x337.jpg

We'll touch upon this more a little later on, but Ubisoft is definitely designing Connor to be more agile (and lethal) than ever. Objects, like this log, that would have previously slowed Ezio or Altair into a cumbersome climb animation - or worse, forced a player to maneuver around - can now quickly be mounted and vaulted over, or slide under, like we see here. Knowing that movement, action and combat will be more fluid is certainly reassuring. It's hard to feel too lethal when you're figuring out how to get over things your grandma could navigate.

    6. Death From Above
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 6-600x337.jpg

Hello, rope dart. It's nice to meet you. That British soldier might disagree though.

We had previously heard Connor would have access to some new weapons, but this is the first we've seen this rope dart in action. One second our new assassin is perched in a tree, the next he's hoisting his prey into the air, using the weight balance to lower himself to the ground to fight the opposition. Our imaginations are running wild thinking of what the rope dart's long-range, physical functionality could be.

    7. A New Kind of Warfare
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 7-600x337.jpg

One musket is a bit worthless, but up close (or in a group) things get a bit dicey. To minimize the potential damage his opponents could cause, Connor doesn't hesitate in using his foes as shields. This isn't exactly a new concept for a game, but in the world of ACIII, this has lethal implications. Connor's lethal toolbox appears to be expanding in ways that allow players actual play style changes versus simply adding more weapons for no particular reason (though we're sure there are plenty of them).

Are you maintaining stealth and distance? Pull out the bow and arrow. Need an aerial attack that will also get you to the ground? Rope dart. Have you been spotted with no hope of closing the distance between you and a line of firearms? Grab a hostage. Muskets are slow to reload anyway - those three guys opposite Connor don't stand a chance if they don't hit him with that volley...

    8. More Ways to Kill

Connor's arsenal continues to expand through even more context-sensitive situations. New weapons and movement options aren't enough, now players have even more ways of dispatching multiple enemies with brute force. As if stabbing two enemies at the same time with hidden blades wasn't enough, here Connor is weaving around muskets, bayonets and swords, proving he's not only in many ways more deadly than his predecessors, but more effective at getting the job done.

    9. More Agile in the City

Navigating buildings wouldn't seem to be something that would get us too excited, but it is when Connor does it faster than ever. Getting past obstacles in previous games could be downright cumbersome, but seeing this new assassin burst through shutters, vault over obstacles and generally flow from one movement to the next is a thing of beauty. Assuming all of this is easy to control, and that this isn't scripted, maneuvering around these colonial towns is going to be just as thrilling as waging war against various Templar factions.

    10. I'm the Juggernaut...
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 10-600x337.jpg

One of the most impressive things we saw in our Assassin's Creed III demo a couple months back was this sequence. It's not enough that Connor is more lethal or more fluid in his movements. It's the intersection of those concepts that matters. From all indications, players will now be able to move from one kill to the next, not slowly walking from one target to the next, but in continuous motion, striking down his enemies while never slowing in pursuit of his prey. Watching Connor stab this soldier with his hidden blade, his momentum carrying both of them forward - the next victim already in sight. If there was one moment where 'stunning' came into our head, it was this one.

    11. The Killing Blow
    Assassin's Creed III Confirmed!, Kimilicious, May 18, 2012, 7:09 AM, YourPSHome.net, jpg, 11-600x337.jpg

This is likely a scripted event, much like some of the 'key target' kills we've seen in past games, but it visually sums up every reason why we're excited about Assassin's Creed III. The environment. The vicious, relentless, almost Batman-esque lead character. The historical setting. The vast improvements to animation, movement and how those ideas play into gameplay. The new weaponry. Put all of those things together and you have what is easily one of our most anticipated titles for 2012. And, judging by your reactions as well as how many of you have been reading each and every piece of content we put up about this game, it's one of yours as well.

Clearly, I want this game. Need to finish off Revelation first. Maybe the online aspect as well. I do like trophies.

Through rain, snow, and sunshine, there's no storm that Connor can't kill through in Assassin's Creed III.
