I've heard whispers on the wind about this and am hopefull that they get it right, but not very confident they will. Then again, I was wrong that one time back in 96', so who knows. Personally, I'd prefer to see Dev's fix broken things before upgrading what's already there. I can't help but feel some trepidation towards this new direction. I'm all for gaming, but I guess my big concern with this aspect getting bigger in Home is the huge influx of under-13-year-olds and Trolls we will be inundated wtih if the masses catch on. It's hard enough to walk through Home without slipping in Troll snot... I wonder if Sony plan to add more Mod's to keep Home clean? Heck, we could use more now... so yeah... probably not then right?
I see the core spaces like the plaza will be removed but wondering if the theater will go to, I'm hoping not since it got's a lot of screen to watch and rewards are put in there.. And as for the plaza getting replaced wonder what they will do when the want to promote a game theme makeover the space, will they just make a space just for it now.. I like the change just hope nothing goes wrong..
Now one has to WONDER? if this is gonna be just USA Home that gets this make over? or will EU, Asia, Japan also get the same make-over! If they all get it then all Home will pretty much look the same at that point and will no longer be unique by regions... Hmmm! Don't know what to think if that happens... I guess wait to see then... By: DCS
I hope EU gets this, but I'm willing to brave the NA region for something so game changing when it finally arrives. And DCS, I don't think one has to worry too much about the NA region losing its "unique" status. ;D
I don't see this as game changing. Pushing pay-to-play games and competition is what the NA Home has always done, in place of holding free events which build the community and draw people into Home. Then they wonder why they can't get people to come back. Helllooo? NA Home? Is anyone listening???
If this is a multi-regional thing, then Sony probably would had a official news announcement on it's global site. Instead they only had it as a US blog announcement, so it'll probably only be for the US region. If this succeeds then they may spread it to others, but till then I don't think this concept will be coming soon to other regions.
Alas, another change, so soon after the problems we just had. I agree with Zero, hope this doesn't bother things already in place, I have alot going already and don't want issues with glitches. I understand that change is inevitable, but how much change? I hope we keep our ability to commune with friends in this new HUB, and that talking and hanging out with your friends, won't be limmited to your personal spaces. Don't get me wrong, I welcome change, but I like some things the way they are...bit of a comfort thing I guess. Well, Hope to see all of you and my friends soon in the New Playstation Home...and in the Hub...Take care all, and here's to the FUTURE!:surrender::scooter::balloon:
Sony must know that game integration into home will not interest the hardened gamer at all, these guys wanna play c.o.d. On ultra mega insane level, wearing a blindfold armed with a dessert spoon, not some limited edition super weapon theres no kudos in that, so the people that go after these weapons or pre order stuff have got to be treasure hunter types and they will use home already or big fans of that game that probably dont because the least used public areas and the worst apartments are game based but generally these people enjoy a genre of games and perhaps thats what Sony are looking to bring into home with sports, action zones etc etc, but these types wont suffer glitches bugs and lag like social application users do, because one thing is certain dont matter what application you use Home Second Life or IMVU they all suffer glitches bugs lag and I use all three depending on mood. So if Sony are truely going to go after that type of player and as long as they dont forget the social aspect it can only mean good things for the future because theres no way Sony could be silly enough to go after a game player that at the first sign of trouble will go back to they old ways and they would be lost for good
So I'm apparently the only one that read the blog and thought "sounds like Free Realms?" The new direction has me curious about a couple of things and how they will integrate into the new direction: 1) game launching 2) clubs 3) voice and/or video communication As in, will game launching be a universal thing as it is now, or by engaging in a quest or travelling to certain spaces, might game launching be curtailed to provide more continuity to the premise of the new PS Home? Will clubs go from neglected element to something greater? Will in-world video communication be supported? What of the various chat and voice modes recently introduced will be kept and/or expanded in the new direction? I'm not expected the rug to be pulled out at launch but if they're changing the direction and focus of ps home then there will be secondary and tertiary effects.
I don't see why SONY is "revamping" Home to begin with, it's not a fully sound application as is! There are rampant network errors on and off (mostly on) and yet they have planned out and plan to do this elaborate scheme!! There are several unanswered request by Home users (mainly music and video streaming), yet, SONY is revamping Home, wow! One may easily state, well it's a copyright thing! We as users wouldn't be selling the music, we play, we could never do so anyway! The only thing we can send via the PS3 are msgs and pics (that speaks for itself) as far as video streaming and or playing videos directly from our PS3's into our virtual spaces, I don't see why this hasn't already been implemented, TV's are more common place in spaces now and it gets repetitive watching mini-sodes and trailers!! I understand the concern for allowing the playing of videos from our PS3's, but there's no reason why we can't stream video of anime, movies, TV shows from a place like Crackle or somewhere! This revamp is only going to add to the list of problems, NA Home already has!!
Yoko, music copyrights does not just cover the selling of the music but also public boardcasting of it, so playing it in home with others is a boardcast.
They have music unlimited available on PS3 & internet radio available completely free on the PSP, i can't see why it couldn't be available on PSHome in certain areas like apartments or clubhouses & dance areas.
Thank you for pointing that out, I didn't realize, that playing music in a closed setting (i.e. personal space) could be considered a broadcast! I see it as an iffy subject, I mean, if a user were to record video of the music being played, then post it to youtube, that's (to me) definitely broadcasting! but if the world or a massive amount of people are unable to see or listen to it, then I don't see it as a broadcast! I guess the music industry would beg to differ!
every main competitor to home has it imvu you pay for tracks you cant play unless theres 2 people about, and you cant play complete albums, no restrictions on streaming internet radio, second life plays music everywhere themed to area usually internet radio or real radio stations both have you tube viewers, neither of them have they own music or film part of they companies as Sony does so a lot of the arguments around licensing etc etc hold no sway when your competitors do it and you dont
I had completely forgot about that! PS Home could definitely integrate internet radio into Home! This application on the PSP is awesome, you can listen to music from around the world! This would relieve the tension in Home over generic music as well copyright issues that SONY constantly use as excuses to not have music in Home!
Hmm, with the US change predicted in Autumn and the EU change at the end of the year I somehow doubt that you are serious in predicting that. It would be nice though, very nice.
