PlayStation Home to Add Suite of New Developer Tools and Tech with Version 1.5 Announced at the Playstation Blog! http://www.yourplaystationhome.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=2 PlayStation Home to Add Suite of New Developer Tools and Tech with Version 1.5 Posted by Locust_Star // PlayStation Home Community Manager Today, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, we lifted the veil on PlayStation Home’s version 1.5, which will be coming to your PS3s in early spring. The update will introduce a suite of new technology with tools that will enhance your experience with real-time multiplayer, improved physics, as well as more realistic graphics and animations. PlayStation Home v1.5 was developed with one singular goal in mind: high-quality games. Developers will utilize the improved network mechanics to bolster the multiplayer experience with the fastest action available. With the revamped physics engine, developers will carry more control over physics elements, graphics, rendering and animations, which will translate to more realistic and more intricate game experiences. This update is significantly different from what you, the PlayStation Home community, have come to expect from past core client updates. While versions 1.3 and 1.4 brought user-facing features like Voice Chat, Cross Game Invites, Navigation Improvements, In-Store Previews, New Item Types (such as Active Items and Companions), Optimized Load Times and Universal Game Launching, PlayStation Home v1.5 is packed with tools and features that will enable developers to expand the types of games possible on the platform – from first-person shooters with real-time, peer-to-peer multiplayer to kart racers and more. These new developer tools also allow for richer graphics and an overall improvement to frame-rate, which is something on top of everyone’s wish list. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding – which is why we want to take this opportunity to show you how PlayStation Home v1.5 will impact your in-world experience. Behold SodiumTwo, the follow up to Lockwood Publishing’s massively successful tank combat game, Sodium One. The game, which is scheduled for release in conjunction with the 1.5 update, takes advantage of v1.5 and features heavily customizable jets squaring off in fast action multiplayer races at supersonic speeds. Check it out!
Oh yeah, S2: PV. It was fun to be chosen as the initial Beta tester for it. Everyone should look forward to it! Some cool S2 is coming! :3
Really looking forward to this! It's going to be great to see the variety of games coming to Home. With the way they're making it sound, the possibilities are endless with the new upgrades! It's good to see PSHome getting so much focus in the field of improvements as of late. It really gives us frequent users even more to be excited about.
sounds more like were gonna see Home become a Pay to Play game platform. If so it'll be a sad day when Home goes to all Pay to Play format. Lets just hope it doesn't! AWW! By: DCS
I hope they release 1.5 at least a week or 2 before sodium 2 in this case so they can iron out any problems, as the update looks to be more about improving the quality of mini games that can be created I definitely see more pay to play games coming in the future. There has only been 1 mini game on home that I'm sure most will agree even if it isn't to their own personal taste that has been worth paying to play on home and that would be sodium, Personally I see the pay model used by sodium as the type that suits home best and will allow people to feel they've gained what they paid for, sadly more games seem to want to charge us for every game or minute played and that model is what could and I guarantee will put home users off the games and therefore put a lot of people off using home.... I have no problem with pay to play as long as it's a case of pay once, play all of it anytime.
I've highlited the one part I really am hoping for. God knows we've suffered from subpar network connections. I really would like to see random freezes and other errors from lack of network response to be substantially reduced.
I'm excited to see Sodium 2! I hope the update turns out good. Hopefully they restore all the items that disappeared before, I want my Criss Angel couch back, then I can start buying some thing in home. (I made a vow not to spend any money on Home related items until they gave back the items that disappeared.)
So it may come up between the end of march and the end of june ? Sorry, cause I live in the southern hemisphere and its summer in here now.
Did I miss that highlighted part somewhere in the PSN blog? I've been without that Criss Angel couch since, well, whenever it first went missing lol. I'm just not reading anything that suggests this will finally be fixed. Sodium 2 sure looks like Wipeout HD I enjoyed Wipeout HD, but then I didn't have to keep buying stuff to improve my vehicle and I'm guessing that might be how Sodium 2 is going to be.
Lets hope they improve on the experience as a whole, more active items, cross-country, equal number of items for each continent etc.
Whats making NO sense is the videos and screen shots that appeared online of S2 and the ones Sony shows with the update... no graphic difference I can see... So for all of Sony's big parade... wheres the 'proof in the pudding'...
SodiumTwo would have been made for Home 1.4, but it will use part of 1.5 to add real muitplayer races. I guess we will not see anything to much new to end of the year when content starting to be made now comes out.
