The Home Decorator Guild 2013 Member of the Year - A8te_Ball

At the end of 2013, the BoxieCat Decorator’s Club (the first HDG Decorator’s Club) held a vote for their "Member of the Year." Each member was asked to nominate one member of the club they felt was the most supportive and active member. A8te_Ball received the most nominations, and as BoxieCat's "Member of The Year”, he received a $50 PSN card! The Home Decorator Guild congratulates A8te_Ball for this recognition from his fellow members.

Here is an interview with him that reveals how he got his start in Home decorating, and his winning techniques for decorating spaces in PlayStation Home:

It was my pleasure to have an insightful conversation with Boxer_Lady, about the beginnings and future of the Guild.

            Spotlight On... Active-Item Furniture
Lots of Deco without using "lots" of slots!
            By Gilgamesh680 and BlackRoseGoddess

One of the most common complaints received from those decorating on Home is regarding the 100-slot furniture limit, placed on us by Sony, when decorating a personal space. Trying to decorate a personal space with only 100 slots can be quite the challenge, especially in a large multi-story space. Some decorators like to include a large number of small “detail” items when decorating, for a more realistic look. However, they must balance that level of detail with the need to fill large areas with larger items. Item size is part of this too; since a huge couch takes the same one slot as a small pen on the counter – go figure!

Fortunately, there are some active furniture items from Juggernaut Games, which enable you to decorate with a large number of items while using a relatively small number of slots. These active furniture items act like a cabinet or container from which you can pull many small items, while only utilizing one slot for the actual container itself. For example the “Fine Cupboard” active item, which uses only seven slots, allows you to pull out of it up to forty dinnerware items and place them in any personal space. This can be a great way to get a large number of small detail items into your space without consuming a large number of slots.

To use one of these active furniture items........

“Earth Week-One with Nature” in Home HDG Contest!

Earth Day 2014 was last week, and on that day people in many different countries took action to protect our planet. This year the theme of Earth Day is Green Cities.

Going Green in the city means; planting trees, using solar power, reducing resource consumption, riding a bike and getting out of your car, using turbine technology, and much more. We would like you to use these phrases as incentive to turn your space into a “Green” space!

What does “Going Green,” “Earth Week” or being “One with Nature,” mean to you? We want you to use your imagination and transform one of your spaces into a “Green” space!

Decorate at least two rooms in one of your spaces for the “Earth Week-One with Nature” contest. Share your pictures with us on the HDG Facebook page by posting at least two pictures of your newly decorated “Earth Week-One with Nature” space. Then give us at least one sentence telling us what your idea of “Going Green,” “Earth Week,” or being “One with Nature” is. Be sure to put your country code, NA or EU, and your PSN ID on your posting so we know who posted the picture. Make sure you “Like” us on Facebook too!

Here is the link to our Facebook page for full rules and posting contest entries:

I worked hard on this contest at my new Lockwood Oasis reward space. It works with the concept I submitted to the HDG FB page as instructed. Adam_Bell was a great help in lighting the two rooms that I had created. I hope to see what others entered as well. Great idea for a contest HDG. U-_-U

Winner of the "Earth Week-One With Nature" contest!

Mimi May has been selected as the winner of the HDG Earth Week - One With Nature contest.
                  Check out her submission at:
                  Home Decorators Guild | Facebook

She has created a wonderful blending of the classical elements of earth, water, fire and air. There are ample signs of life with a variety of animals and lots of plants and flowers. The living areas smoothly transition from inside to outside.

Thoughtful details abound, each true to the theme. The parked bicycle reminds us of opportunities we have to be kind to our planet and ourselves. The fresh fruit reminds us of the bounty we share with respect for the source. The animals are there showing we care and respect the life that is with us in our environment.

Mimi’s submission to our contest captured the essence of the meaning of Earth Week. We are pleased to award her a $10 PSN card, and put her name into the drawing for a $20 PSN card at the end of this month.

                  Thank You Mimi May!

Aw. Gil you gave me chills reading your above post. Thank you.

Thank you, as well, to the HDG board for having such a creative contest. I was working on the idea the day of the meet and greet. So, I will see ya'll the beginning of June.

Yes, boxer. My space is still decorated according to the submitted imagery. I've been trying to work items back into the rest of the space since kicking two Loot lights used for the photo shoot. Come on over and check it out. :D

Who do you think you are, anyway?
                    Well…. I am glad you asked…
                    By Gilgamesh680 and Boxer_Lady

Who are you? What do you do?
These are questions that we get asked frequently and something that you might want to know.

The Home Decorator Guild, in its most basic form, is a group that helps people find a decorating club to belong to among the decorating clubs that are members of the Guild. Home decorating clubs join us to belong to a group of like-minded people who enjoy decorating and showing their spaces to others. We hope that we can make it easier for people to find a decorating club that is most convenient for them to attend, by holding our monthly Meet & Greet and other events in Home.

When a new member of the Home Decorator Guild starts their membership they attend a Meet and Greet (held on the first Saturday of each month) to get an overview of the Guild and how a Deco club works.

During the Meet and Greet, we offer a Q and A session. Some of the most frequently asked questions are: How good does my decorating need to be when I am first starting out? What style should I use? How much furniture do I need to have?

First off, there is no minimum requirement of decorating skills needed to join one of the decorating clubs within the Guild. The members in our decorating clubs have a wide range of experience in Home; they may own only a little bit of furniture or a lot of furniture they can use in decorating their space(s), it does not matter as everyone is welcome.

The one thing that we all have in common is our love of decorating a space as best as we can, and then sharing that space with our friends in our club. We want to see what others have done and get new ideas from them, which we can then use in decorating our own space(s). We acquire new furniture items as we are able, and proudly display what we have done with what we have. There is no wrong way to do this.

Everyone has a different style that they like in decorating. Some like to make their spaces as close as possible to the real world, with layouts similar to a real house. They have living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, with details that make it look inviting and lived-in. They pay attention to color and have a style that fits the nature of the space with pictures, carpeting and furniture. I have seen spaces I would love to live in, in real life.

Some like to decorate in gothic styles, some in modern, others in bright colors for a fun environment. Some create natural environments with water and texture, or like fancy hotels, and some are like dance clubs with lights and music. Every one is different, and I have never seen a space that did not show that the owner had given a lot of thought and time to their decorating to achieve the desired effect. They are all wonderful achievements and deserve praise for the effort and the result. The owners are proud of their work.

Bottom line is, anyone can join the Guild, decorate a space as they like, and show and tour spaces with new friends. That is what it is all about.

If you are interested in joining a club of people that enjoy decorating and then showing their space(s) to other like-minded people, then the HDG might be for you! North American OR Europe, we have a decorating club for everyone! Join us the first Saturday of every month, 4pm Eastern, 3pm Central, 1pm Pacific, 8pm GMT, at our Meet & Greet held online in PlayStation Home, and find a decorator club that is right for you!
