Thought you guys might like this. Do you think it will come true? Is this a good thing?

One thing I worry about is the core architecture of a free game may kinda suck. And the company behind it may be resistant to changing it, like with Home.

    But we'll see :)

Can you imagine playing gta and when you finish a mission it comes up with a 30 second fizzy drink ad or your heads up display have health bullets and a sportsbet.mobi banner, if its free to play ads are the only way they could make real money or it could go freemium so you would have to use real cash not game cash so we could end up paying for our guns in gta. Or a bit of both of course, it might mean more games get tried so a game I may dismiss, I may try for free and like it , meaning id spend money on it, it would mean developers couldnt put out sub standard games if your trying it for free

I think they mean to make money from item sales like Home does. Or sell you stuff to give you a bonus like Aurora and No Man Land does. I don't think they will add advertisements, except for ingame stuff.

On the other hand, I would gladly accept advertisements over paying $60. But I don't think that's what will happen.

Yea IM counting on that wouldn't happen either. But if they do give you bonuses its trying at least to give you something in return. Thats good right?

I've heard a lot about this, but I think this will still be a ways away. I think what we'll see first is games going totally digital, no discs available. It will cut down on second hand games and Devs can make full price with each game. The second phase of this would be the fermium. They will make money how they can. In the game you may see shops with familiar logos, such as tonight while playing inFamous 2 I saw Subway. It is an advert, might not be an expensive one, but it could become more common place. Add in paying for characters, paying for weapons, paying for extra maps, 60$ doesn't sound all that bad. Most games today push the 80$ mark if count all the DLC anyways.

I think you are pretty right on the mark. Though to me $60 has always seemed too high for a game. Especially since I usually only play a game once or twice nowadays. To me, playing a game is like watching a long movie. I might do it twice if I really like it. But after that, it's hard to justify the time commitment.

But that's just me. I know other people LOVE to play a game over and over.

EA has had changing ads in games for a while now I think. I believe as far back to Need For Speed Most Wanted. And one game had politcal campaign ads back in 2008.

EA has been changing ads way long back actually. I remember seeing a political ad like you said but in 1999. Hmm...I could be wrong but Im sure that Im not.
