My friend lost all her game data because she didn't wait for the database rebuilding to finish. I have friends that lost all their PS3 data because of HDD corruption. Always Backup your PS3 HDD. Anything can happen to jeopardise your PS3 data. Do Not forget to BACKUP YOUR PS3 DATA. An External HDD is great but anything that has gigabytes of space & the PS3 recognises it will work. Listed below are some ways to backup your PS3 data. I do this every week. Haha I Need To Do That .. My PS3 Sounds Like It Is About To Take Off Soon Whenever I Play A PS3 Game, Its Fine When I Play Home. I Will Back It Up; I Need To Find My External .. Its Somewhere Around Here .. LOL
Yep, it never hurt to do periodic monthly PS3 back up or every 2 weeks within the month. But if you don't want to do a full back-up, you can always back-up the game/HOME save files on to a decent size USB flash drive too to prevent loosing the save and to restart your game from scratch.
USB Flash Drives USB Flash Drives are cheap & will work for saving PS3 files & the more space the USB flash drive has the better. Backing up your PS3 data can take up 40Gs to 100Gs of space & last about 3hrs 45minutes depending on how much you have to backup. If you value your PS3 data, Always remember to backup it up. I know some of you are going, DUH WE KNOW THIS!!! This is for those that don't know how to & those that forget. WAKE UP!!!! Your PS3 data is not safe & forever. It can be lost or corrupted. So back it up.

Yeah, data transfer between two PS3s. What a great idea as then your copy protected saves go across, even in the days before cloud saves for Plus members. Sorted, yeah? No. Here's a link to one of my threads on the EU forums for when I tried this: Re: Data Transfer Has Taken Three Days and Not Fin... - Official PlayStation® Community -PlayStation.com Total run time: 3 days, 21 hours, 5 minutes Started on the 23rd of December so I was without a PS3 right through Christmas. I couldn't start it any earlier as I already had to travel a considerable distance to get to a guy who could heat gun the old PS3 into life so that the transfer could start. Now sure, the old one was dodgy, but an overheating PS3 works or doesn't work. After the heatgunning, it worked. There is no reason why it would run slowly in data transfer. Just thought I'd post this warning so that anybody trying a data transfer is aware that it may take some considerable time to complete in some cases. I know others who have completed it way faster (yeah, even the guy who bought that old PS3 off me had no problems doing one) but it can go horribly slowly so put aside some time for it if you can. Nearly four days... the mind boggles.
Very true. Data transferring times can take longer. And copyrighted data sucks, games that has copyrighted saves suck tremendously. Bayonetta. I beaten every difficulty level & had 9 platinums on my way to unlocking Jeanne, & I lost a month of game data. If it wasn't for the transferring i would have lost everything. Being able to copy copyrighted saves makes PSN+ worth getting.
Ouch!! I feel bad for your friend. I tend to make back up saves of my games and Home data every now and then, just to be safe. Glad I did because back around june my PS3 actually died, so I had to get it repaired. I was fortunate though.
Yea it was a good thing because when sending any system to get repaired, The HDD of the system is formatted be it Sony Microsoft or Nintendo. Once you send your system in, the data will be erased So backup your PS3 data. That should be included in console manuals. backup your system data & how to do so.
Luckily for me I did NOT send my unit to Sony. I sent it to PS PROS in New York. Not only was it fixed but all my information was still intact. pics, music, game saves, everything. I should've mentioned that part in my last post. oops. :innocent:
I hope everyone remembers to backup your PS3 HDD to a USB Flash Drive external HDD memory stick or whatever can hold your PS3 HDD data. As i said before, data can get corrupted HardDrives can get corrupted, you can lose all your PS3 data that way. Backing up your PS3 HDD is a great way to save yourself from losing all those hours days weeks months years of time accumulating that data.
