Let's see how Sony recovers by christmas time and still Japan isn't up yet. They are helping the citizens also by helping rebuild but the gamers need to play the Goverment should show a little pity.

My limited understanding of corporate economics would suggest that those are the 2 most important points to take from this story. The huge loss was totally expected because of the previous tax credit. Sony is still projecting an operating profit. They probably aren't suffering much more than a lot of major corporations, especially considering the impact of the earthquake and tsunami.

That said, their brand name has taken a beating and can't hold a candle to Apple at the moment when it comes to gadgets. On a personal level, we purchased a Panasonic plasma recently after owning Sony TV's for some time. The decision came down to preferring plasma over an LCD and Sony no longer sells plasma screens.

Apple? They still haven't even recovered from the revelation that their iPod touches and iPhones have been tracking and storing your location (for more than a year) for targeted marketing. Then came the news of the explosion at their Chinese sweatshop, where there have been numerous suicides due to the inhumane working conditions. Then the news about the first ever Mac virus, and the "Don't call us" response from Apple tech support. Also the inability of many iPod touches and iPhone 4s to use iTunes if they haven't upgraded to Leopard. Oh, and let's not forget the revelations of the "Failure is not an option" culture which Steve Jobs used to terrorize Apple corporate heads. I can't remember a month where I've seen so much bad news about one company.

Oh, and the irony. As I'm writing this, I just received a feedback response from Apple. So now I can tell them about their horrible Apple support, which repeatedly failed to give the proper instructions for disabling the digital camera notification on my Windows XP. Thankfully I know how to use their database and found the answer myself.

Well, I'm sure they will be trying to get that money back, I better break out the big boy wallet before PSN comes back.

I'm not declaring my allegiance for Apple in any way. In fact, I don't own a single Apple product. Never have. We've always used PC's. I have an Android phone and an old Creative mp3 player that I barely use anymore.

All I meant was that, despite their faults, Apple's products still create a buzz. iPhones, iPads, iPods...Sony makes similar products but their name is not as buzzworthy anymore. Aside from the PlayStation, when was the last time Sony had a product with a name that became part of everyday vernacular? The Walkman?

I understand. For a brief moment I used to think highly of Apple, but any company that violates my privacy is going to earn my swift retribution. And I now have a much better understanding of their corporate culture than I did formerly, which are the two reasons why I'm now so sour about Apple.

Sony took a hit with the PS3 no question, but I think they'll survive.

The company I'm really worried about is Irem. Canceling that disaster game of theirs is a huge financial hit.
