Hope this isn't true. Might be a good idea to change those passwords again for anyone who has done it online via the web. I know sign in to ps.com is currently under maintenance. Sony Turns Off PSN Online Sign-In Amidst Rumors About Password Security : Gamer Punch ___ Sony Turns Off PSN Online Sign-In Amidst Rumors About Password Security Posted by Webbstar | May - 18 - 2011 Sony has turned off the PlayStation Network online sign-in service amidst rumors surfacing regarding the security of changing one’s password via the web. As noted on the PS Blog’s EU forum, a user said: Web based Password reset system is NOT secure – is vulnerable to exploit using only email and DOB. Then, Sony had just recently turned off the ability to change a PSN user’s password via their official websites, further adding to the legitimacy of the service being insecure. A Sony community team member on the forums confirmed via saying: Hey Guys. Please note that PSN sign in is currently unavailable for the following services: PlayStation.com PlayStation forums PlayStation Blog PC CAM Qriocity.com Music Unlimited via the web client All PlayStation game title websites Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password password via Playstation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being. This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take. In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information.
Is Japan right? Did Sony rush things in getting the service up and running I wish hackers would just all get caught.
Well, I have all of my accounts changed except for Japan, but I am curious now as to how this will affect our accounts. Are we going to have to change our passwords again, etc, etc..?
AT the moment I don't think it will if it hasn't already. They've potentially learned of a problem and quickly shut off access to anyone who would think of changing a user account password. Personally I changed all my passwords this morning again but the hack supposedly could be done at the web server if they have your email and date of birth. They can't do that now. In addition if your account were compromised you would have gotten an email indicating your password had been changed. I got two this morning because I changed my password on both of my machines. If you haven't gotten an email about it I would say you have nothing to worry about.
For some reason it's broken for me and I NEVER get emails from Sony, but I feel lucky I got to my password first.
If changed my pass once from the ps3 and again from the site should i change it again and do it on the ps3 since sony is all screwed up and the hackers are cleaning house..
I think this is more than mere rumors. Since I was only on day 3 of the possible 14 days Sony email response time, I guess I missed the window to change my password. edit: me and English good not always
Trill, I had an idea. Maybe Sony can set up so you can physically bring your ps3 to a sony center (there's one a few miles from me for example) and tell them to activate all your accts?
@ FF, that's the first time I've heard that suggestion. Have you or anyone else tried this? Guess I could call the Sony help number to see. The last time I called it didn't take more the 12 minutes before I talked with someone. Does that sound sarcastic? Don't mean to be lol. Guess my expectations aren't so great. Thanks for the idea.
I've never gone to Sony with my ps3. But I've done it with other sony devices. The quality of customer care I got at a Sony Customer center was outstanding. They REALLY want to help if they can. Phone customer service can often suck. Sometimes you are calling INDIA. But talking to a person is a whole different story sometimes. Their job is not to sell something, or advertise something, or PR, but to make you a happy customer. I have had friends who took their ps3 in and they've had their ps3 accounts deactivated there when the ps3 was dead and they bought a new one. If you go in yourself, you have the machine as proof it's your account. And You will be there to sign for it which is something that a thief wouldn't do since it identifies them. it's worth a try.
hey trills, what happ.. you not been on psn yet either..? i got my pw changed earlier tonight via web at qriocity, but when i tried logging into my account from a different user on my replacement ps3, it sad i could not sign in using someone elses sign in (email) address..? like what was the point of changing my pw then.. :/ i think i might have to call up sony as well if not take it back again to get activated.. bloody hassles.. >.<
I had to call sony to deactivate some systems the other day. Cosidering I was on hold for 12 min twice and having to wait 2 days for the deactivation to take place, it went over pretty well.
Finally got an email from Sony, the important part of which goes like this: "Thank you for your recent call to Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Consumer Services. Based on the information you provided, we were unable to access/validate your Playstation®Network account. We DID NOT reset your password. You can create a new Playstation®Network account, or contact us directly for further assistance. You can also check the PlayStation Knowledge Center for informaiton on resetting your password." How sweet, I can creat a new account. Laa ti daa ti da. Have a nice day. :vb_banghead: So I called Sony up and they again said they couldn't help me. Also, even if there were a Sony center nearby, they couldn't do anything, apparently because it's a non-SCEA account. My only option is to email eu@playstation.com. So I'm waiting to hear from them. Hard to believe they've locked me out of my account(s). Also, when Japan and HK are up I'll have to email them at asia@playstation.com. The Sony rep assured me there weren't separate emails for them. Don't believe that for a second but what can a person do. I really doubt I'm gonna get a response from them. Insanely mad would describe my state of mind. Just let me get into my accounts like before!
This is strange... When PSN went back last saturday/sunday, I was able to download and install the new 3.61 firmware and later to change my password on my 3 accounts, and since then, for one whole week, I was not disconnected from the PSN on any day. I did not received an e-mail from Sony since all my 3 accounts are activated on my PS3, I guess.
Do you have an Asian account? So far I've been able to change the passwords on my NA, EU and JP accounts, but not my Asian account. I keep getting that maintenance message. But I'm staying hopeful. However, my JP friends have told me they can't sign into any of their foreign accounts.
I have not been able to do anything with my JP account. And the only people who I know that are in Japan that can get on home are using accounts they created over here and /or have their US ps3's with them. (I am just assuming that is what it is, I have not asked how they can get on home.) As far as I know, no-one in JP or HK can get on psn.
Awww, Nooo, Trill?!? I know you can reclaim what is rightfully yours. If anyone can do it, it is you, I believe in you ! Have you found any others with similar problems? Someone is going to find a way. Best of luck to you. BTW. I didn't see these posts until now but Aeternitas is correct. I just posted in the JP thread that I was just now able to change my JP password but go no further than that. Maybe "soon"?
I don't think anyone can get on to their JP account. Some people that lives in Japan are starting to log in to their US/EU accounts are using VPN servers.
