Yeah, I think it wasn't because of the hacking too. Just mentioning it because it's the first report I've seen..

btw, I'm definitely amused by the Anonymous civil war. One side publicly posted the IP address of members they hated. I hope the FBI saw that!!!

Thank you, very much Hopper, I know some spanish that I can't say here lol. I also know some Tagholic and some Japanese. Very little of any of them tho. The Spanish I picked up from some of my Platoon members, the Japanese from my time in Okinawa, and the Tagholic from when I was at Subic Bay in the Phillippines.

I also spent some time in Honduras and Panama, you think I would know more Spanish :):p

I agree, all these messages on PSN ETA.....pffffft WHATEVER I'm sick of it geez. I think the worse part of the outage is reading all the guestimations on when PSN will be up followed by all post soaked with tears of disappointment because PSN isn't back yet. Here's my guestimation, PSN ETA is UNKNOWN!!!!

I know that song too. But I know it from those commercials on tv that advertised some huge collection of music, and they play only two seconds of a song then skip to the next one quickly.

As i listed before on the PSN forums... My ABEL GI TOP for SFIV is gone... I have my receipt for it when i bought it. I told the Home Mods... They told me to call Customer Support... Support told me they couldn't do anything about it and that a Home Mod would have to be the one to fix it. I then tried to contact the home mods again. And till this day i have had no word from them and the item is still gone... It won't even let me rebuy the item. So i can't get it back anyway i try... That is one Paid item that i use as it's for my Main Street Fighter Characters. Its a Capcom item. How hard is it for them to give me my item back? This was done with the 1.40 Update! I have many other item's that may be gone but haven't had the time to check them all. I have so many...

The Reward item's are gone from all my accounts... And they never fixed them... That is one reason to get ticked off... Look how long it's been and they do nothing!

Then add now three weeks of all PSN item's gone due to the shutdown... Is enough to make anyone crack!

If PSN ever come back on that will be Good. But that still won't bring my missing item's back. AWW!

They got me running in circles trying to chase a tail i don't have...

I thought this opinion piece had some relevancy, though perhaps instead of "Beware" they might have used "Be wary."

Also, it's my understanding federal law says we're only ever out 50 dollars max. Anywho, FYI:

Beware of Sony’s offer in wake of data attack

    May 10, 2011 09:53 EDT
Sony seemed a little slow on the trigger when it came to reacting to the massive data breach that appears to have exposed customers’ personal and credit card information to thieves. Then the company responded with what appeared to be a magic bullet – a $1 million in liability protection for all customers who accept free credit monitoring for a year.

The $1 million offer to those who play Sony games online and use the company’s PlayStation service sounds impressive, but it’s a rather hollow marketing pledge. In reality, if there was a theft, it would rarely exceed hundreds of dollars and consumer losses to credit card fraud are already protected by federal law. So, the policy wouldn’t need to be used.

Identity theft protection expert Denis Kelly, author of the “The Official Identity Theft Protection Handbook,” goes further — saying the free credit monitoring offered by Sony to its customers is deceptive.

“The main issue is that they are not protected from identity theft, and with a ‘$1 million insurance policy’ and ‘Internet Surveillance’, it implies that they are protected,” he said. “It is not that the service directly places the consumer at risk, but it is the resulting mindset that jeopardize the consumer due to the false sense of security.”

He suggests that anyone who wants to protect their credit from identity theft, and is at risk, should consider fraud alerts. Fraud alerts are a message to the credit reporting agency noting that you might have been a victim of identity theft or fraud and to exercise an extra level of verification before extending you any further credit. Sony, in its original email to its customers, did spell out how to place a fraud alert.

Placing a fraud alert with the major credit reporting agencies, Experian, TransUnion and Equifax, is relative simple and remains in place for 90 days. There is no cost. Consumers can also take the more extreme step of a security freeze, which is intended to stop requests for credit. Those are done for a fee that varies by state.

Kelly said he is mainly concerned the idea of enrolling the AllClear ID program run by the company Debix will prevent consumers from taking the safeguards they need to in order to properly insulate themselves against someone trying to commit credit card fraud.

What Sony customers are supposed to be getting with that service is an alert that a fraudulent transaction has already taken place, rather than have something in place that would prevent that from happening in the first place. And Kelly said it is important for the recipients of this service to understand that it might be free now, but the company is going to spend the next year to try to convince them to buy their paid service.

Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said the company won’t address its relationship with Debix regarding the protection offer or whether Sony paid for the service.

“We’re providing this as a complimentary offering to our consumers as there was a criminal attack on our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services in which personal data may have been compromised,” he said. “These services are designed to help protect consumers in case they have any issues or concerns with identity theft.”

Seybold also didn’t address the assertion that the $1 million insurance was an empty gesture.

He said: “We’re committed to helping protect our customers from identity theft, and in the U.S., we’ve launched a program that offers cyber monitoring and surveillance as well as up to $1 million identity theft insurance per user.”

Beth Givens, executive director of the advocacy group Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, said even though the insurance policy is virtually meaningless, the monitoring for consumers whose personal information was exposed was necessary for the company to offer — even if only for the public relations value of showing the company was doing something.

“It has become a ‘best practice’ for breached entities to provide such services,” Givens said. “If they were not to provide something, they would look like they don’t care about their customers. It would be a public relations black eye.”

Givens said that fraud alerts are not appropriate in this case and are best suited for when someone believes their Social Security Number has been stolen. Sony customers, she said, should be vigilant about checking whichever credit card or debit card account they used to set up with Sony and report any fraudulent activity immediately.

After that, whatever you do, don’t fall for offers of “credit card protection.” You’ve already got it.

Same, especially all the ragequitting kiddies. They can go. PSN and PSHome will be better without them.

Certainly a drama to say the least. When it'll end is anyone's best guess at the moment.

 Thanks Trillian. I did the "Placing a fraud alert with the major credit reporting agencies, Experian, TransUnion and Equifax, is relative simple and remains in place for 90 days. There is no cost."

Knowing my financial situation I think this was a good choice for me at this time. I think each person will have to decide what actions are best for them (if any). I actually only went to experian.com for now, as they said, "As a convenience to you, we will notify the other national credit reporting agencies, Equifax and TransUnion, of your request for an Initial Security Alert. You should receive confirmation from them directly."

EDIT: Oh, Experian also said, "As you requested, an Initial Security Alert has been added to your credit report. This alert will expire after 90 days from 05/11/2011. As an added precaution, we have removed your name from prescreened offer mailing lists for six months". I hope this cuts down on CC junk mail because I have been receiving a lot more than normal lately. Probably just a coincidence though.

That reminds me, it's probably about time to renew my phone numbers with DONOTCALL.GOV. :p

I've yet to see any official word from Sony that services are restarting. They could say something on the US blog to give people a little hope.

I'm getting bored playing Little Big Planet by myself.
