This is hurting a lot of developers and ultimately fans because the money they are losing will not be available for game development and other game related items. Capcom had this to say... PlayStation Network down time costing us 'hundreds of thousands' - Capcom - ComputerAndVideoGames.com ___ PSN down time costing us 'hundreds of thousands' - Capcom Monday 9-May-2011 4:57 PM Lost cash could even be in the millions, says publisher's senior vice president The prolonged PlayStation Network down time following the hacking of the service is costing Capcom "hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue". That's according to Christian Svensson, senior vice president at the publisher, who was asked on the Capcom Unity blog what he thought of the hackers responsible for the PSN outage. "I'm frustrated and upset by it for a number of reasons," he wrote. "As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can't do... and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation Store and that I can't do right now. "On a related note, as an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget," he added. "These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans. "In short, the hackers appear to be trying to 'punish' Sony for some perceived injustice, and they've been effective in that I suppose. But they're also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses which makes it impossible to be sympathetic to their 'cause'." Sony said today the PSN might not be fully up and running again until May 31, six weeks after it was taken offline. The platform holder is reportedly considering offering rewards for help in its hunt for the hackers responsible for the PSN security breach last month.
I just had a thought, Jo. YOu know how Home was very tolerant of hacked items for the longest time? Sony was occasionally banning hacking items in Home before the outage. But now, after Sony has lost MILLIONS of dollars, I'm wondering how tolerant Home will be of even casual item hackers. Will there be a shift in Home's moderation?
Same here, I am curious as to what will happen the next time I see someone with the Audi Police outfit in US CP. (or any other EU/JP item for that matter.)
Capcom will be fine. XBox Live and Wii still are up. I'm sure they're making their money. I would be more worried about the little known developer that is trying to compete with the larger companies that are exclusive to Playstation. Those would be the ones really taking any kind of hit.
My thoughts are what kind of reward is Sony offering to anyone with info on the Hackers responsible? Wish I knew who it or they are causing all this trouble.
The World is Falling! The World is Falling! The World is Falling! Well at the rate PSN is going it will be true soon enough!
I think the big news to take from this is that PSN will be down for another THREE WEEKS. And even then, we all know how their last "target dates" panned out.
Ulta that's when they expect the whole of PSN to be up. The Online gaming as well as Home is suppose to be coming online before then. At this point we've waited this long, does it really matter? Let them get it done right so we don't have to go through this again. I know real life sucks some times, but come on guys. Would I love to be online kicking someones a$$ on the new MK or romping around Home? Sure. There are things in this world that are worth complaining about, but this isn't really one of them. This is only an inconvenience as long as your CC information wasn't taken and charged on. I'm sure we can survive until the network comes up. Complaining about it on all these threads is not going to make it come up any faster. If you're really are upset, call or email Sony because it just seems like the same topics are being brought up over and over again. Cue, the dead horse for someone else to beat it.
the world is gonna end psn is down what a load of ******* **** I saw a news article on a site said that the PSN is due for maintenance on 11th March 2010 that means the network will never be up unless we can go back in time, wheres Doc Brown when you need him Read the statement sony put out we all knew it wasnt going be fully up at first, its a quick and lazy way of getting hits on your web site, if some people are going to be this gullible im selling tins of air if anyone wants one
Yeah--that pretty much did it for me. This is the last thing I am going to say about this whole train wreck. I'm tired of all of it--Sony has handled this situation with the same level of honesty and reliabilty that they handle everything else with.....with utter and completely baffling incompetence. This is an extremely poorly managed and operated Corporation from top to bottom. Doesnt matter to me anymore who caused this or why it happened---the result for me is that I simply dont have any more faith or trust left in Sony. To think that hackers could bring a multi-national, billion dollar company to its knees is plain old, flat-out pathetic. There is something more going here....and of course, we would never be told that, but there is NO way that with experts and the "best in the field" working on this "around the clock" that it would take this long. I dont know what they have in store for their next announcement and I couldn't care less. Sorry for the attitude and more ranting, but its hard to make the disconnect from something that I've enjoyed for so long, met so many good friends on and invested so much in without feeling really burned and pissed off. Take care everyone and have a good summer.
Well the May 31 date was from a PlayStation Tokyo spokesperson according to the article, but I agree blog sites are having a meal of the PSN news. That being said I've moved on and enjoying the $ I'm saving from not spending it on PSN and Home. Offline games, 360 games, even Second Life (you can pretty much do anything, although graphics blow and people take it way too seriously).
I already do thanks. Was that supposed to be funny? Dont quit the day job if you have one because you sure are no comedian. You go ahead and stand by them and continue to play into their hands the way they want you to. I have other things to do in life.
Hmm, well I did order a couple of things off of American Science and Surplus. I might prowl Thinkgeek later for anything I might want ^^
Gary, Your so right as usual! Chill everything will get back to normal - PSN wont be down forever! Trying going out and enjoying the UK sunshine cause trust me that wont be here forever either!!
