Is Sony going to abandon Home as not worth the effort? I am starting to feel like one of those homeless people pushing around an old grocery cart. But now the grocery cart is a cyber-cart and it is full of images of clothing I can no longer wear and mansions and treehouses and other abodes that are becoming a distant memory of another time and place where I put my faith and trust in a future of carefree living in an imaginary world full of fairly real people. I should have known whenever I start having a good time there is someone somewhere just waiting to screw it up.

I doubt Home is ever going to be abandoned. It seems to be a big money maker and there are lots of people on at all times.

well...sooner or later this shutdown will happen again and it will be permanent. Like alot of the PS2 online game servers, ps3 servers will become obsolete for ps4. But that won't happen for a few more years at least.

They are setting up a NEW server with brand new code. I don't want a server system that was quickly built in a week! I'm glad it's taking time. I miss my online world. But each hour it's off means another hour they're doing work for us. We have asked and begged for them to do work on the core system. Now they are finally doing it! And they are working HARD as possible. This is good thing for us.

    :D

Sorry Fire that thought hasn't even cross their minds. Their we don't give a damn about the customers attitude hasn't changed one bit. In fact they have more contempt for us now than ever before. This network should have been up over a week ago that proves how much they love us NOT. This downtime is more corporate political now than it is technical. Typical Japanese turtle maneuver. Everytime a new story comes out on how they screwed up. They go right back into their shell and delay turning the network on again. They been ready to go for some time now...

Somehow I doubt it'll be abandoned, because making everyone who buys a PS4 start over from scratch would just be horrible business.

My guess is they would make things carry over to the PS4. Just a guess.

I feel myself weakening every day without Home or online play. Makes me sick to my stomach just letting this go by.

I honestly get the same feeling. When I see the error message when starting up my PS3, I suddenly don't feel like getting out of bed.

I'm sure they won't brutally cut off Home. But when the PS4 becomes popular enough, Sony will spend more money on PS4 software than PS3. Less on our "old" ps3 Home and more on a PS4 Home. If they want to move us off of Home, all they have to do is stop creating new content for the old version of Home. Without new content, people will get bored and leave. And as more and more people leave, there is less reason to stay.

Then they will relegate the old version of Home to a cheap crappy server. And focus all the money on new PS4 Home with a new much better graphics engine. Everyone ill migrate to it. So even if you spent $1000 or more on PS3's Home, what good will it be to be on a Home that feels abandoned? It will be like having a great wardrobe in Home HK....

That's if Sony doesn't turn the PS3 home into the PS4 home.

Honestly if they made people start over from scratch I could see people abandoning Home all together. I know I'd be angry if all the money I put into Home was suddenly made worthless.

I know. I feel the same way.

But I worry about converting all the PS3 Home items to a PS4. I'm a 3D artist and I had to learn alot of the things that go wrong moving a 3D model from one program to another. Or when a program upgrades. And it can take some work. And there are SO MANY Home items now. Who is going to do it? Who is going to pay for it?

People think, "Oh, it can be done automatically". But it's been my experience that lots of little things go wrong. And lots of manual labor is needed. And Home rarely ever works on an item after they have sold it. Very rarely will they allocate the funding to improve an item once it's out.

I'd argue that home doesn't need a graphical upgrade, except in a few areas, but that's my opinion. And I do understand that headache. People over o nthe Facepunch forums have been trying to run Portal 2 content in Garry's mod, bee na headache for them. Same problem is cropping up with Left 4 Dead content.

I don't miss the drama the annoying stray friend requests, random harassing messages, The pervs, people asking do you have a cam, I don't miss that crap at all. I miss PSHome as do you all but you have to realise PSHome isn't going to be around forever. In a way it sucks that we have this life connected to people & items we care about so much & that connection is broken like this. I know we all have the dearest friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, sisters, brothers the countless items property we've accumulated over the yrs of PSN's life. This shutdown should tell you Unfortunately PSHome will come to an end sooner or later anyway & when the PS4 comes around, & if Sony decides they want to bring PSHome to the PS4 What makes you think they'll transfer your PS3 Home items to it. Why give people a start on items by transferring what they have when they could just bring you to a place with new items you can get. Spend money regaining the ground you had on the PS3. We're all just money 2 Sony anyway

I'm certain they will do something for the PS Home whenever PS4 comes out later in the years. Perhaps a transfer from your HDD will benefit from that as well as their servers or something else will let you transfer all your Home content (rewards, PSN add-ons or games, photos/music, or bought items) into the new system. We'll have to see what upcoming news will be in a later date though.
