What does shortly mean to SONY? A week a month? Shortly to me means in a few hours or about a day. Not in a few days or longer. Why do they continue to screw people around here.

There more concerned about their image then their customers. Hey Sony you want to improve your image turn the switch back on.

    You decide.

    Did Sony mean this;

    or this;

This whole thing is getting really old now. Whereas the trend was for some time now. People were leaving xbox live for everything playstation.

Now, people are fed up and are going to xbox live. Not only because PSN is down, by the way they handled this whole situation. The total lack of them saying when it will be back up. Then this repeating of their omissions in this entire affair. This is a Japanese company. They do not like explaining anything. Like Toyota and this nuclear crisis by Tokyo electric etc. You see in a socialist country like Japan the corporations rule. Their government is just for PR.

    Side note;
A few years ago Sony made their own brand hard drives for the ps3. They were charging $100. When asked why are you charging a $100 for a common laptop hard drive where you can get it for a lot less everywhere else. Sony said because that's what xbox charges.

My point being the ps3 is the red headed stepchild of the 360 or at least thats how they act. So since xbox was down for 2 weeks for the same issue a few years ago. So they figured they do the same? One thing is for sure I found dealing with SCEA. It is painful to say the least. Because they have set the bar of new levels of incompetence. Never before seen in any industry.

Now the entire playstation and Sony organization. Is clearly showing their outright stupidity that has reach a level that will be totally hard to match. For a long time to come...

I wouldn't get so excited over 30 days of free PSN+ just yet. Most every other service requires a valid credit card to get 30 free days so that they can start billing you on day 31. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the gateway drug Sony uses to get us to give them our credit card numbers again.

I hope that I can log in with my new slim, unfortunately my original PS3 got the YLOD like 2 days before PSN went down. That did prompt me to write down all my information so I should be OK. It does worry me that they say "should work", lol. Way to be non-committal.

Sony Suffers Second Major Data Theft

(Reuters) - Sony disclosed on Monday hackers had stolen the names, addresses and passwords of nearly 25 million more users than previously known less than a day after the Japanese company apologized for one of the worst break-ins in Internet history.

Sony's latest revelation comes after Sony No. 2 Kazuo Hirai announced measures had been put in place to avert another Playstation-type cyberattack, hoping to repair its tarnished image and reassure customers who might be pondering a shift to Microsoft's Xbox.

The Japanese electronics company said it discovered the break-in of its Sony Online Entertainment PC games network also led to the theft of 10,700 direct debit records from customers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain and 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers.

The attack that Sony disclosed on Monday took place a day before a massive break-in of a separate video game network that led to the theft of 77 million users accounts. Sony revealed that attack last week.

The PlayStation network lets video game console owners download games and play against friends. The Sony Online Entertainment network, the victim of the latest break-in hosts games played over the Internet on PCs.

Sony said late Monday that the names, addresses, emails, birth dates phone numbers and other information from 24.6 million PC games customers was stolen from its servers as well as an "outdated database" from 2007.

A spokesman for the online games unit based in San Diego said the service was taken down at 1:30 am Pacific time on Monday.

The April incident has sparked legal action and investigations by authorities in North America and Europe, home to almost 90 percent of the users of the network, which enables gamers to download software and compete with other members.

On Monday, Sony declined to testify in person in front of a U.S. congressional hearing, but agreed to respond to questions on how consumer private data is protected by businesses in a letter on Tuesday, said a spokesman for Rep. Mary Bono Mack, a Republican Congresswoman from California, who is leading the hearing.

    SONY FACEBOOK GAMES DOWN

The incident that Sony disclosed on Monday also forced it to suspend its Sony Online Entertainment games on Facebook.

Sony posted a message on Facebook saying it had to take down the games during the night.
A Sony spokesman said the Facebook games make money from microtransactions and the sale of virtual goods like costumes and weapons.

It was not immediately clear if the data theft included data from players of Sony games including "PoxNora," "Dungeon Overlord," "Wildlife Refuge" on Facebook.
Facebook could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sony Online Entertainment is a division of Sony Corp, the global electronics company that operates online games such as "EverQuest" and is separate from the PlayStation video game console division.

Sony denied on its official PlayStation blog on Monday that hackers had tried to sell it a list of millions of credit card numbers.

The news comes less than a week after Sony alerted customers that a hacker broke into Sony's PlayStation video game network and stole names, addresses, passwords and possibly credit card numbers of its 77 million customers.

Sony alerted customers a week after discovering the break-in.

Sony executives apologized on Sunday and said it would gradually restart the PlayStation Network with increased security and would offer some free content to users.

Thanks Trill. I caught a glimpse of that story earlier, but chose quickly to ignore it.

This is bad news for PSN users too, Sony has to go into damage control again instead of focusing on bringing the network back up :pissed:

This is just peachy. Now it's going to take another two weeks for these upper management morons to figure this one out. Now psn will not be back on for over a month. All because they made a cheap secure-less network. So they would make the top money. While they gave us the short end of the stick all along.

Thanks sony. Well they made the decision for me. Bye all going back to xbox live they at least are the devil I do know...

According to them, they did say that it'll be back this week or on May 3rd, as of speculation. Not totally concrete as of yet, but I'm still hoping to get it tomorrow.

This second incident is unrelated to PSN, the PC servers of SOE games are separate and this will not have any effect on psn coming back this week, unless you have an account on any SOE games you have nothing to worry about...

Yeah, sorry, what I meant to say on the above post was about PSN, and not SOE.

They have totally mishandled and continue to mishandled this entire incident. They have no excuse for what they have done and continue to do it now. Point being they are just repeating their first statements. Rewording it every which way they can and have been deliberately avoiding when this network will be back up. The last thing they said about going back on-line was, service will resume shortly. What does shortly mean to these pin heads. I'm not going to go into detail because I already have in a prior post about this.

Their afraid of getting their feet wet. They have been stalling since they said famously said well be back up in one or two days. That been how long now? 12 days and counting maybe 12 more now. So do not hold your breath they are clearly dragging this out. For reasons which are more corporate than you know. I see a June reopening now maybe. I hope I'm wrong till then I'll be on xbox live see ya....

Those security questions will not be used. As an added layer of security, the password can only be reset on the hardware in which it was created, or through a validated email confirmation. If necessary, Customer Service representatives have alternative methods of validating accounts, but the primary means will be through the console on which the account was created.

hmmmm.... I guess that means it will automatically know when we log in that we are the authentic user by the MAC ID number of our PS3. So I'm guessing we won't have to remember our password.

Which makes sense, since a identity thief would have to STEAL the physical machine to fake sony when we change passwords.

There are ways but it would take a very expensive lab with the proper equipment and time. That's something the bad guys don't have I hope. I don't foresee psn being on-line anytime in the near future. I hope again I'm wrong...

WOW ,its one thing then another with Sony ,I don't think they have a clue themselves (too many cooks as they say) ,and its making me see the incompetence and lack of communication between the whole of Sony Entertainment internally ,this doesn't give me (and I am sure a lot of others) a lot of faith in what they are saying.

Each day that passes I am losing more and more confidence in them ,also I don't give a dam about freebies , I just want to be-able to log into all my regional accounts ,mostly my Japan one and thats the one with a fake email (yep I never changed it ,and should have ,my bad) but still like a lot of others, will lose a lot of spent money on Home and store items if that quote above is corrent ,I am hoping Yaster is more in the know and its the active accounts on up to 5 Ps3's that we can change passwords on.... ,and I can't believe Sony are going to beat the xbox's downtime ,its getting to be a joke now , I have tried to stay positive for nearly 2 weeks ....:eek:mg: ok thats my rant over...:kwasny:

So this 2nd incident is about PC users only - not PS3 correct?

I play the DCUO PS3 version - not PC - and I don't pay to play any games on Facebook.

    JPConway

P.S. Way to go Sony - what other things are you forgetting to tell us about?

Yeah and all Blog Post Sony makes are just PR speeches to keep the people calm...

Yeah Right! Don't go falling for any of that PR crap... Were just getting the Run around and the sooner people know that the better off were all gonna be for knowing so.

They did say this week... But didn't say any day. It could be like Friday before anything happens. If they don't come back on this week at all then those posts they made would in fact be False and could be used in a court of Law!

They better not go and screw us all by feeding us False information just to keep us calm for now. As were gonna have to fight back if this in fact has all been a lie on there part, and they don't return this week as they said!

One thing i know for sure if they ever do come back on-line... I will never never never use a Credit Card to buy anything from them again... Ever! Fool me once Shame on, But ur not gonna Fool me Twice!

And for all this Trouble were having now we deserve way more than 30days to Playstation Plus Crap! Sure that's a Start... But in the end that is not Good Enough to keep us Happy in the End.

Since we here are all Home Users... We also deserve some Good and Plenty FREE Home Item's FREE Cloths... FREE Apartments... And allot more Sony!

    Make it SO!

    Nuff Said!
