    The xbox incident was produced by a crash on the servers because modern warfare was launch that chritsmas, the servers crashed and went down. And the bbc news is just a strong rumor gary, is not a fact. Im following the Neogaf thread too.

    Update on PlayStation Network and Qriocity

    Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the current outage of PlayStation Network & Qriocity services. We are currently working to send a similar message to the one below via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of an illegal intrusion on our systems. These malicious actions have also had an impact on your ability to enjoy the services provided by PlayStation Network and Qriocity including online gaming and online access to music, movies, sports and TV shows. We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week.
    We’re working day and night to ensure it is done as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and feedback.
    Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
    We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
    1. Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
    2. Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
    3. Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
    We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
    Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
    For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
    To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:

    M&M-Anons Infiltrate PlayStation Underground

    (TM News) - 20 minutes ago

    Tokyo - New details are emerging regarding Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Network and its lengthy outage that seem to point to the PSN being infiltrated by a malicious group calling themselves M&M-Anons.

    M&M-Anons is the name of a splinter group of MuiMui, small bluish creatures who frequent idyllic islands and have their own party cruiser where gambling and other illicit activity is said to ocurr. Usually MuiMui can be found wandering about aimlessly, sometimes searching for the psychedelic substance Pickorie.

    Most MuiMui give the outward impression of being moody and lazy, though some Sony Home avatars suggest they're just all whacked out on Pickorie. An unamed Sony Home avatar who frequents areas known to harbor MuiMui says "I usually had to do some crazy dance to even get them to wave at me. I think they're bipolar. Plus, every time I looked to see what they were doing on that one island, they just seemed to be messing around."

    Apparently this newly disclosed faction of MuiMui, the M&M-Anons, were doing a whole lot more than blankly waving and tossing beach balls to themselves on those sandy beaches. The M&M-Anons now appear to have been busily digging intricate tunnel systems (with people's actual credit cards) to infiltrate the PSN from underground.

    Asked to comment on these allegations a member of M&M-Anons simply said "All your Pickorie belong to us."

    PSN customers worried about their credit card information might be relieved to know that the credit cards M&M-Anons did use in the digging process have been rendered unreadable.

    Authorities say their investigation is ongoing.

    Earlier today the group known as M&Ms released a statement saying they have no affiliation whatsoever with M&M-Anons. One clearly frightened orange M&M named "Mandy" stated she had personally almost been eaten by one of the MuiMui. Another unnamed green M&M also found the MuiMui to be quite dangerous as well as a bit pervy.

    wow latest update is bad and very bad on sonys behalf to leave it so long to say our cc details might have been compromised , not good at all , hope home ok and my content as spent about 500 quid on there :( missing home , my friends and black ops ;)

    PlayStation Network Shoplifting May Have Taken PS3 Offline & Other Less Believable Theories | Kotaku Australia

    Kotaku was alittle late on writing this (actually a few days late), but I believe this is the real reason. If you google you can gain info about this since early April from Jailbreaking sites. This probably is more damaging to Sony's reputation to other companies they have businesses than saying personal information was leaked to it's customers. The news that they announced is probably to cover up the real reason. Could be wrong. It could be both, but the info that Sony provided today shouldn't have made servers go down for a week. There should be more to it and I believe the above story is the reason they need to rebuild their servers. Either way, bad move on Sony.

    No I did not get them to put that in writing, as they don't seem to want to comply with any requests. At this point it is just easier to ask and hope they aren't just blowing more smoke. I am however considering calling the Attorney Generals office and checking to make sure my consumer rights aren't being violated by all the unclear back and forth stories.

    I'm certainly glad I don't own any Sony stock right now. I bet it's fallen big time over the past two days and after this news will go down even more. Can't believe they waited an entire week to let us know our CC info could have been stolen. Heads need to roll from the top down at Sony.

    As I said before they can do an investigation with archive records. But if this hacker disrupted those records and they are doing a forensic investigation. Then this network could be down for weeks if not months.

    They could make a mirror network that has all the necessary security programs in place. This is very practical since the old PSN will never return anyway. But instead I believe they rather prolong their mistakes at our expense...

    I am so so annoyed they did not tell us sooner too ,I am just scared that if they have stolen our pw emails etc ,they could have already changed our passwords so we can never use our own id's again (if you get me) :( grr at Sony for slow reply , and hang them hackers , they ar lowlifes ,I had about 2000 yen and about $25 on my account's hope its still their next week ,hope you all are safe ,peace out :closedeyes:

    yeh it is too bad. hopefully our info will not be stolen or inaccessible. hackers are bunch of punks with nothin better to do than disrupt others lives. fingers crossed that we will be back online and secure soon x

    I haven't seen ANY Sony notification that my personal info and credit card info was unsecure until today.....

    Have no fear your yen and dollars are at no risk. Those funds are still in your PSN accounts. What the hackers want are your credit card numbers. They can't get to your PSN funds and take anything out. Simply because your wallet can only be used to buy PSN products.

    They did say as soon as PSN is back on-line you should change your passwords. If your nervous about the credit card you have on file with PSN. Then I suggest you report it LOST. Verify what charges you made on PSN with it or whatever. Then they will send you a new account and card. That is the best course of action you should do in this situation...


    Added note: The reason why I say report it lost is because you don't know if it was stolen yet. Reporting it stolen will cause a delay in getting you a new account number. So just to make it as painless as possible reporting it lost now is the best option...
